Focusing on Rapid Water Removal and Cleaning Solutions

Water removal is a crucial and intricate process that cannot be overlooked when restoring a damaged home. It is imperative to ensure the exposed materials are protected from further damage. Our water restoration procedures begin as soon as we receive your first notice of loss, and we take swift action to mitigate the situation.

Clearing Surface Water During Mitigation

Immediate extraction processes are crucial to tackle water damage in Mountain Home properties. It is vital to use vacuums and pumps to clear the pooling liquid to prevent sensitive hardwood plank flooring from absorbing moisture and deteriorating. The longer the exposure time, the greater the risk of warping and deterioration of the planks.

Understanding the Stages of Damage to Wood Flooring

Water damage in plank floors can affect the possibility of drying and restoration. The moisture level also determines whether we can salvage materials or if controlled demolition is required. Stages of water infiltration include:

  • Surface - Technicians can remove pooling on hardwood flooring using extractors, mops, towels, and air movers for drying. This stage is crucial for regulating water absorption and preventing the situation from worsening.
  • Free – SERVPRO® professionals use drying mats and equipment to remove moisture from wood planks before they bond molecularly.
  • Bound - The water has bonded with the wood planks' cellulose, causing distortion and warping. Restoration and drying are not feasible anymore.

Water damage to your flooring requires immediate action to avoid further damage to your home. At SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, we have the tools and expertise to protect your installed building materials effectively. Don't waste any time; call us immediately at (208) 788-0183 to get your flooring back in its best condition.

The Hidden Risks of Water Damage

Water damage in your home can be more than just a surface issue. Beyond the visible mess, there are hidden dangers that, if left unaddressed, can lead to long-term problems and significant repair costs. Here's what homeowners need to be vigilant about:

Structural Integrity: Water seeping into the foundation can weaken the very structure of your home. Over time, joists and beams may begin to rot, which compromises the building's stability and safety.

Mold and Health: Damp environments are breeding grounds for mold. Often growing unseen behind walls or under floors, mold can cause health issues ranging from allergies to serious respiratory problems.

Electrical Hazards: Water and electricity are a dangerous mix. Moisture in your home's electrical system can lead to short circuits and, in severe cases, fire hazards.

Early detection and intervention are key. Regular inspections, especially after incidents of water intrusion, can save your home from these hidden risks. If you suspect water damage, don't wait. Contact the professionals at SERVPRO of Wood River Valley. Our trained technicians will ensure that your home is not only dry but safe and secure for the future, "Like it never even happened."

Inspection & Damage Assessment

In the first step, your team should visit your space, assess the damage, figure out the hazards, decide what can be salvaged, and work to stop the cause of the damage.

Water Removal

Once the initial assessment comes the first step in recovery - pumping however many gallons of water out of your home thoroughly.

Damaged Material Removal

The next step in cleaning water damage is removing any damaged materials, be it furniture, or parts of your home’s structure.

Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Deodorization

Once the damaged materials have been removed, the team should work to clean, sanitize, and deodorize whatever’s left, to make sure it’s still liveable in the future.

Drying

Just because the bulk of the water is gone, that doesn’t mean dampness isn’t still a problem, which is when industrial drying equipment comes in.

Monitoring

Throughout the process, professionals should visit your property daily, to see how the drying is coming along.

Repairs & Construction

After the property has been neutralized and any items have been removed or restored, your home may need real structural attention, which should come only at the end of the process.

If your home suffers severe water damage, call us today and we’ll follow these steps to make it "Like it never even happened."

Flooding in your house can cause all sorts of damage to your belongings, electronics, and even the structural integrity of your home. We know the risks water damage can bring, but it’s important to know what causes that damage in homes, so you can best prepare for it.

Common Causes of Water Damage

  • Damaged Pipes: This is especially common in older homes where plumbing systems can become rusted and worn down over time. Watch out for cracks and bulges in the floors and ceilings to stay one step ahead of pipe failure.
  • Kitchen Appliances: After being used for a long time, or used improperly, your white goods can start to flood the floors. Common culprits are overfilled fridges, clogged up dishwashers, and leaky washing machines.
  • Natural Disasters: Maybe there has been a hurricane, a nearby dam has broken, or your home has been caught in a major snowstorm. There are a number of possibly harmful natural occurrences that mean floodproofing your home against these eventualities is always a smart move.

If you can’t get ahead of water damage and find yourself having to deal with the fallout, don’t take it on yourself, call SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, and we’ll make it “Like it never even happened.”

What To Do When Water Damage Occurs

4/13/2022 (Permalink)

water damage on floor near corner wall We hope you never experience water damage, but if and when you do, we will treat it and work to restore your space to what it was.

Water damage is a more common occurrence that plagues many homes and businesses. Even in small amounts, any water damage that is left untreated compromises the structure of the house or building and is also a health risk. When left unattended, water damage can eat through concrete, cause electrical shortages, affect structural foundations, and breed toxic molds. In most cases, professional services from SERVPRO are necessary, if only for the safety of you and those occupying the water-damaged space with you.

First and foremost, when water damage occurs, the priority needs to be safety. If you cannot safely remain in the space, evacuate immediately. Keeping safety first, remember that wet materials can be extremely heavy. Don't move wet furniture or rugs without help, and even then, it isn't wise to risk your health or bodily injury. Water damage can become complicated (and very dangerous) when electricity is involved. Slip and fall hazards are a prevalent concern as people often don't remember how slippery floors make things more challenging.

While you wait for SERVPRO of Southern Wood Valley to arrive and you've assessed if you can safely be in the space, there are some tasks you can do to help prevent long-term damage.

  1. Wipe down any wood furniture (after removing anything on the top of the furniture).
  2. Use mops and towels to remove excess standing water.
  3. If your upholstery is wet, remove any cushions and place them in a dry spot to begin drying and reshaping.
  4. If the carpet is wet and you cannot thoroughly remove the furniture, place wooden blocks or aluminum foil between the legs and carpet.
  5. Remove all rugs (if able to).
  6. If it's summertime, turn the Air Conditioning on full blast to start the drying process.
  7. Remove any items off the floor that can be moved to a dry location.

When a disaster like water damage strikes, it can make us all freeze and not know what to do next. It's important to share things not to do after water damage happens.

  1. If your ceiling is experiencing water damage, do not turn on your ceiling fan, and stay out of that room in case of a ceiling collapse.
  2. Hang all wet fabrics to dry (rugs, furs, leathers, etc.)
  3. Remove any colored items off the wet floor (books, magazines, art supplies, toys, etc.)
  4. Don't use any electrical appliances in that room (I.e., television, refrigerator, hairdryer, streaming devices, etc.)
  5. Never use your home vacuum to remove standing water.

Using SERVPRO for any water damage emergency is the choice to make. Not only is our team professionally trained and equipped with the highest-grade equipment, and we will help you with your insurance claim too. When water damage occurs, there are often terrible lingering odors left on the furniture and other personal items. The Southern Idaho SERVPRO team can safely, effectively, and efficiently clean furniture, upholstery, and other personal belongings.

We hope you never experience water damage, but if and when you do, we will treat it and work to restore your space to what it was. Our team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley has been restoring water damage for Richfield residents and businesses for years. Frozen and burst pipes are a common issue this time of year. Here are some tips from the Insurance Information Institute for things you can do if you discover that your pipes are frozen:

  • If you discover that pipes are frozen, don’t wait for them to burst. Take measures to thaw them immediately, or call a plumber for assistance.
  • If your pipes burst, first turn off the water and then mop up spills. You don’t want the water to do more damage than it already has.
  • Call your agent or company as soon as you can. An insurance adjuster doesn’t need to see the spill before you take action. However, they will want to inspect any damaged items.
  • Make temporary repairs and take other steps to protect your property from further damage. Remove any carpet or furniture that can be further damaged from seepage.
  • Make a list of the damaged articles and save your receipts and submit them to your insurance company for reimbursement

Winterizing Tips for Mountain Home

A dripping faucet is shown. We are leaders in water damage restoration in Elmore County.

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley responds to many water damage emergencies in Mountain Home each year. During the winter months, frozen and burst pipes are a common problem. Here are some helpful tips from The Insurance Information Institute to keep your pipes from freezing:

  • Identify the location for the main water shutoff in your home
  • Open hot and cold faucets enough to let them drip slowly. Keeping water moving within the pipes will prevent freezing.
  • If you haven’t already, make sure all hoses are disconnected from outside spigots
  • If your garage is attached to your house, keep the garage doors closed. The door leading to the house is probably not as well-insulated as an exterior door.
  • Keep the house heated to a minimum of 65 degrees. The temperature inside the walls where the pipes are located is substantially colder than the walls themselves. A temperature lower than 65 degrees will not keep the inside walls from freezing.
  • If you plan to be away for an extended period of time, have the water system drained by a professional to keep pipes from freezing or bursting

Water Damage Prevention Tips for Bellevue?

6/2/2021 (Permalink)

A water shut off valve is shown. We mitigate commercial property damage 24-hours a day in Blaine County.

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley has been restoring water damage in the Bellevue area for years, and in many cases, the damage could have been avoided by maintaining the home’s indoor plumbing systems. Here are some plumbing maintenance tips from the Insurance Information Institute:

Know the location of the main water shut-off valve in your home

A damaged hose or a burst pipe can send water racing into your home.

Being able to locate and shut off the main water supply quickly will save stress, money, and time.

Inspect appliance hoses and faucets

Make it a practice every year to check hoses leading to water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, and refrigerator ice makers. Immediately replace any hoses that have cracks or leaks and replace them all every five to seven years.

Inspect showers and tubs

Check the seal and caulking around showers and tubs to make sure they are watertight and reseal if necessary.

When away on vacation, shut off the water supply to the washing machine, and never leave the house while the washer or dishwasher is running.

Check plumbing and heating pipes

Look closely for cracks and leaks and have any necessary repairs made immediately.

Clogged rain gutters in Hailey?

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley responds to water damage emergencies in Hailey throughout the year, and we know that many forms of water damage can be minimized through routine maintenance of the rain gutters and downspouts around your home. Water intrusion can occur when rain gutters and downspouts become clogged with leaves and other debris, causing water to back up onto the roof. Here are some tips from Home Depot to keep your rain gutters clean:

  • Regular and thorough cleaning helps keep gutters in tip-top shape. It requires only a few tools and an afternoon to get water flowing from your roof and away from your home.
  • Cleaning gutters in early spring will prepare them for the heavy spring and summer rains. In the early fall, clear out leaves and other debris that accumulated during the warmer months.
  • When possible, avoid cleaning gutters after a rain. Allowing a few dry days before cleaning your gutters will allow the debris to dry out, making the chore much easier.
  • Start your gutter cleaning task near the downspout and work toward the closed-end

Water damage happens.

When our newly remodeled basement living area flooded, we were devastated. Our neighbor told us to call SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley and I’m glad we did. Staying Healthy around Standing Water in Wood River Valley

4/24/2021 (Permalink)

Staying Healthy Around Standing Water in Wood River Valley:

Standing water of any kind in Wood River Valley can be a powerful source of disease. Floods can be worse due to the amount of water involved. Even small puddles can pose a risk.

Different kinds of debris can be found in floodwaters such as dead animals, rotted plants, and sewage, to name a few. If you have water damage inside your home, watch for debris in the home as well to include rotted food and electrical problems.

Viruses and bacteria can cause illnesses. To reduce your chances of catching something, SERVPRO of Wood River Valley suggests:

  • Washing dirty clothes and towels in hot water. Use bleach if possible
  • Remember that you can shake hands with an infected person and get infected.
  • Do not allow children to play in the flood water
  • Wash children’s hands before meals
  • Disinfect toys before letting children play with them
  • Use bleach or other disinfectants on hard surfaces
  • Keep your hands washed

Cuts and rashes can become infected. Protect yourself and others in Wood River Valley:

  • Avoid floodwaters if you have an open rash or a cut
  • Clean cuts or rashes. Cover them with a waterproof bandage
  • Clean cuts with soap and clean water
  • If a cut becomes red, swollen, or is oozing, get medical attention

Water Damage

1/26/2021 (Permalink)

Having kids means that your home can go through many messes, including ones that leave you in need of water removal services. However, you may be wondering how you can tackle the mess by yourself so that you are not continually calling professional help to your home. If you called for help with every mess your child made, you would quickly find yourself racking up expenses. However, always remember that you should call for professional help if you are unsure of how to fix the damage, or if it is particularly beyond your expertise.

You might be wondering what the best course of action is for you to complete a DIY water removal for your Jerome home. When it comes to water spills, acting fast is critical. Your timing can often mean the difference between a cleanup job and a water damage remediation job.

Here at SERVPRO, we always recommend that the very first step is to stop the source of water from making the mess even larger. In the case of your home, this is an easy task. Turn off the faucet and then drain the tub, before immediately finding something that you can use to absorb the excess water. A wet/dry vacuum is ideal for removing standing water, but not every home is equipped with such equipment, which is a reason many people choose to reach out for professional help. When you call SERVPRO, we already have all the tools you need to get the job done fast.

If a wet/dry vacuum isn't a possibility, towels are an acceptable stand-in to clean up the water damage. However, it may take several to remove all of the water that was spilled. Once finished, SERVPRO recommends placing a space heater in your bathroom. Doing so can help dry any excess moisture and prevent microbial growth. Now that the damage is handled, you can relax. Nevertheless, always remember to reach out for professional help if the job seems out of your scope of expertise, to ensure the longevity of your home.

If you find your home in the pressing need of water removal services, get help immediately. Speak with SERVPRO Wood River Valley by phoning (208) 788-0183. We're here to help 24/7.

Common Consequences of Water Damage

12/7/2020 (Permalink)

When people think of water, it is often in regards to sandy beaches or long, relaxing soaks in the tub. Hardly any homeowner thinks about water damage unless they actually experience it first-hand.
However, when a homeowner experiences such damage or threat of it, they likely fear the worst. Thankfully, water problems vary in the degree of challenges, and while there are significant and costly issues that may arise, the three most likely are as follow:

  • Wallboard and ceiling tiles
  • Flooring
  • Cabinets and furniture

3 Common Consequences of Water Damage

1. Wallboard and Ceiling Tiles

Many people realize they need a plumbing repair because they find staining on wallboards or ceilings tiles. The staining is an indicator of where the problem is, but it doesn't always mean there is a significant problem. Sometimes, a large stain can stem from a small leak, meaning repairs are minor.

2. Flooring

Pipes also run under your flooring, which can lead to significant problems in the event of a pipe break. However, even water damage stemming from a sink leak can lead to issues with your flooring. While water may cause irreversible damage to laminate and other flooring types, hardwoods can often be sanded down and refinished. However, you will need to inspect the subfloor, and you might want to hire a mitigation service in Wood River Valley, for such an inspection.

3. Cabinets and Furniture

A supply line break can also damage cabinets and furniture, depending on its location. The quality of the furniture and cabinetry will also play a role in the salvageability of the materials. If made from hardy woods and materials, the pieces can likely be restored, but if the furniture or cabinets use particleboard and MDF, the damage is likely permanent.

As a homeowner, it is vital to familiarize yourself with common water damage issues. Knowing about the possible problems can help you in your preparation and home management.

Water Damage

11/10/2020 (Permalink)

Most Common Causes of Water Damage in Commercial Bathrooms

  • Faucet leaks. A simple faucet leak can waste thousands of gallons of water per year, which can lead to higher utility costs. A pipe leak below the sink can also damage structures.
  • Running toilets. Small leaks can cause toilets to run continually, which can mean paying more on your water bill. Without fast mitigation, this can eventually lead to clogging.
  • Silent pipe leaks. Keep an eye on your water bill. An undetected pipe leak behind a wall, underneath the floors, or in the ceiling is the most likely source of your increased expenses.
  • Low water pressure. This problem in your sinks, toilets, or showers can be caused by sediment buildup on pipes or aerators. It can also indicate a more critical problem like a break in your water line.
  • Temperature irregularities. Not able to keep the hot water in the showers on as long? This can indicate buildup or leakage in your water heater.

DO-

  • Shut off the source of water if at all possible or contact a qualified person to stop the water.(city water department, plumber)

  • Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and flooring.
  • Remove any paintings, documents, computers or any other materials that are valuable or sensitive and store them in an unaffected, dry area of the house.
  • Hang curtains and/or draperies off of the floor.
  • Take and furs and/or leather items to a separate dry space at room temperature.

How Do Restoration Professionals in Burley Know They Fully Dry a House?

Our SERVPRO Professionals Have Sophisticated Tools and Equipment to Ensure Thorough Drying of Burley Homes

Water damages can occur from so many potential sources and have so many varying origin points that tracking the migration of damage throughout a property can feel impossible at times. Especially with the limited equipment and training that many homeowners have, addressing water losses to their fullest extent as you need can become an overwhelming situation. Many have trusted our experienced professionals to help because we have a fast and confident response that can make water emergencies “Like it never even happened.”

As much as water cleanup in Burley homes might feel like a specific term, it can indicate many of the processes that our SERVPRO team performs. Regardless of what phase of mitigation and restoration we might find ourselves, we can ensure customers that their home is getting thoroughly dried due to many of the direct practices that we implement to ensure that no moisture pockets exist once drying stages have ended.

    •    Moisture Detection Equipment
    •    Efficient Drying and Extraction Tools
    •    Controlled Demolition as Necessary
    •    Continual Monitoring of Progress

Just How Bad is the Damage to My Home?
Understanding the severity of the situation in your home is something that often requires special tools and skilled professionals to learn. It is a rare occurrence that surface water is the only threat that our technicians must address when we arrive at your damaged home, so establishing the migration of water and how to stop this spread is vital to protecting your property and its contents from unnecessary irreparable harm.

Because water losses are such a standard callout for our response team, we have production vehicles that stay stocked with our premier mitigation equipment, but also discovery and detection tools. With these advanced machines and technologies, we can get direct information about the presence of moisture pockets within exposed materials, and the concentrations of dampness and saturation that could indicate issues in structural cavities. We have multiple detection devices to help in this regard, including:

    •    Thermal Imagery
    •    Surface Moisture Meters
    •    Probing Moisture Detection Tools
    •    Hygrometers

How Do You Remove Water Absorbed into Construction Materials?
Removing trapped moisture is a considerable feat for our responding water restoration technicians, as saturation can change the composition of flooring, drywall, and other structural elements. Without addressing the present dampness, the facilitation of mold or deterioration of the material could require its removal.

Extraction Tools
Removing any surface water and pooling is one of the first paths that our SERVPRO technicians have to reduce saturation and absorption of materials in the immediate area. We have multiple potential options to help, including our electric submersible pumps, truck-mount pumps, and industrial-grade wet vacuums.

Efficient Drying Equipment
Drying is critical to protect damaged structural elements and the environment as well. With the deployment of multiple air movers and dehumidifiers, we can manage humidity and airflow, allowing us to evaporate moisture pockets and protect materials and contents more efficiently.

Specialty Drying Units
Surfaces like hardwood flooring and tile can benefit from specialty drying equipment like our floor mat system. This approach draws continual trapped water to the desired moisture content level. Tenting these floor drying mats can maximize their efficiency and allow for more consistent monitoring of progress.

Is Controlled Demolition Always Necessary?
As a reputable restoration team, it is always our intention to reduce the need for tear-out and reconstruction whenever necessary. Because we have in-house contractors experienced in areas like controlled demolition and full-scale reconstruction, we have more versatility in the services we can offer and the effectiveness of our team as a whole.

Careful consideration gets made with almost all of the exposed, affected surfaces to determine their salvageability and what must occur to protect the property as a whole. If it costs more to dry and recover a water-damaged structural element than the material is worth, it is more efficient to discard and replace this material. These decisions often get made during the initial job scoping, but might also get made at later points if drying efforts are more involved or costlier than initially anticipated.

How Can You Be Sure the House is Restored?
Peace of mind that your home is getting sufficiently dried after a water loss incident is not complicated for our SERVPRO professionals to provide. Continued monitoring throughout the drying process and mitigation phases can showcase areas where moisture pockets might still exist, or water has migrated to since the work began. Documenting these ongoing results in exclusive software like DryBook keeps all of our water restorers on the same page about what processes need to be done and the efficiency of specific practices. We do not walk away from any job without assuring ourselves and our customers that the work is done.

Water loss incidents can be a destructive force in your home without a fast response from professionals that can dry and protect exposed materials and contents. Call our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley team today at (208) 788-0183.

What is the Best Way to Keep Water Damage from Affecting Your Burley Home’s Subfloor?

12/29/2019 (Permalink)

standing water on hardwood bedroom floor Wow! This is a lot of water! We were able to remove the water and restore this home.

Conducting Water Removal Services on the Subfloor of your Burley Home

Transporting large volumes of water from one area, like your home, to another is time-consuming without the correct equipment. While industrial equipment is rentable, you should only consider using it if you have prior experience as well as a working knowledge of safe usage. Dealing with large quantities of water is an urgent task. However, it is vital to conduct restoration with professional expertise and calmness. It is easy to cause more harm than good when it comes to property restoration.

There are local, professional water removal companies in Burley. We are here to help homeowners that are struggling with burst pipes, leaking ceilings, or malfunctioning heating ventilation and air-conditioning units. Our priority is always to stop the damage at the source. From there, SERVPRO can work methodically to mitigate losses and restore any infrastructure or contents. At the beginning of service, we can communicate with you and record any losses for passing onto your insurer at the end of service.

Water rarely confines itself to one area. In fact, over time, water enters other areas of the home. A large amount of standing water has a significant weight and mass. This weight means that moisture may soak into carpets, your subfloor pad, or even the subfloor itself. SERVPRO use large moisture sensors to probe beneath carpets and assess the likelihood of water damage affecting your subfloor before removing materials like subfloor and pad.

For some homeowners, it is possible to extract moisture without removing obstacles. For other homeowners, SERVPRO technicians must temporarily remove a carpet to gain access to the subfloor. Subfloors pads break apart easily when in contact with water. We can remove and replace these pads to prevent mold growth or other recurring moisture issues. By channeling hot air underneath your floor, we can effectively dry it, before replacing new subfloor mats and clean carpet on top.

Water incidents in your home are urgent, and you should seek professional help immediately. Contact SERVPRO of Wood River Valley at (208) 788-0183 now.

Why Invite Mold into Your Burley Home After a Water Loss? Call SERVPRO for Full Restoration

Peeled Back water damaged wall paper revealing large mold stains SERVPRO Says to Call Us for Water Removal, Professional Moisture Detection in Your Burley Home to Inhibit Mold Growth

Water Removal Burley – Do It Right the First Time

Mold can begin to grow in less than 48 hours if the moisture in floors and walls remains. Some clients have tried removing water from leaks themselves. Owners in Burley may focus on the visible areas that are wet. Many miss moisture inside walls or moisture that has seeped through the floor to the ceiling of rooms below. In a few days, it can quickly become apparent that there is still moisture in the walls or ceilings, and there is an odor.

SERVPRO always focuses on water removal in Burley in those hard to get at places. Mold loves moist, dark, and warm conditions. You can find it in wall cavities, under the floors, and in ceilings from water drips. If you do not remove all of the moisture by following proper IICRC Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification techniques, there can be a mold problem in a few days.

Flood Cuts
No one wants to remove a wall, however, if moisture meters detect dampness inside the cavity of a wall, a flood cut of six inches or more may be needed. Remove the baseboards and drywall. Our technicians can remove damp insulation and aim air movers at these spaces to dry out the area. Air movers work well with dehumidifiers to remove moisture from the room.

Ceiling Tiles May Need to be Removed
Water may have seeped through the subfloor. Water may have passed into the ceiling of the room below. In situations like this, ceiling tiles are removed to access these moisture hotspots. Remove moisture from this area, and the structure, (subfloor and joists) must be dried to avoid the growth of mold.

Once the area is contaminated, the task of removing the mold can become far more invasive. Treat structural elements or remove them. Negative pressure rooms may need to be set up to blow contaminated air to the outside and to protect other rooms in the building. Our teams have the equipment to set up containment barriers and use air scrubbers to provide negative air pressure to vacate these mold particles and spores.

SERVPRO always gets it right the first time and returns your home or office to you, "Like it never even happened."

Quick, Professional Water Removal For Burley Homes

The Snake River cresting and flooding Burley might sound like a disaster movie come to life, but most water intrusions come failed plumbing or a broken appliance. If it goes unnoticed long enough though, a split hose on a washing machine can spill hundreds of gallons on the floor or across walls and property, causing just as much damage.

That is why water removal from Burley homes requires a quick, professional response. At SERVPRO, our trained response teams use the latest equipment to clear each home of unwanted and damaging water as fast as possible without causing any further issues.

If there is standing water about ankle high or higher, team members start with an industrial-grade pump from our equipment inventory. The size used depends on the floor area of the home and how much water is present. For example, an inch or two of water spread across the laundry room, kitchen and living room requires a smaller pump than the one needed for a basement that flooded over an entire weekend or longer when the family is on vacation.

After removing this largest amount of the water in the home, SERVPRO technicians switch to smaller devices called extractors to pull water out of carpets and floors. They can adjust the vacuum speed to ensure a quick effort without accidentally separating the carpet layers, lifting linoleum off kitchen floors, or splintering and cracking wood floors.

Once they complete the extraction process, team members look for water trapped behind walls, or in the sub-floor of the home. In addition to a visual inspection, technicians also use a special meter to determine if the humidity levels are too high.

To remove water, team members carefully lift a floorboard or drill a hole into a wall behind the baseboard and insert a hose attached to a small extractor which quickly draws off the puddle or other standing water. For high humidity that can still rot wood or drywall, they use an air mover. This device forces warm air into the affected space, pushing out the damp air, so it evaporates naturally.

At SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, our teams proudly support our community, as well as Mountain Home, Hailey, and Rupert, among others in the surrounding area. If you are dealing with the effects of water in your home, regardless of the source, contact our office today at (208) 788-0183 to schedule an inspection and service call. Let us help return your home to its original, normal condition.

Monitoring Water Removal from Mountain Home Hardwood Floors

6/16/2019 (Permalink)

Don't let your floors put you out.

Let SERVPRO help you get your hardwood floors back to normal.

As much as many Mountain Home residents might assume that drying after a water loss incident needs to be excessive and absolute, this is rarely the case. In most situations, affected materials and areas of your property must get evaluated by our professionals to determine the extent of damage they face and what actions specifically restore them entirely. With this information, we can begin vital mitigation services to protect saturated structural elements like hardwood flooring common to properties in the region.

Restoring water damage in your Mountain Home to the hardwood installed in your residence is an intricate process that requires not only the specialized equipment of our team but also the experience of our professionals as well. We have a full roster of Water Restoration Technicians and Applied Structural Drying Technicians accredited through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC.) This training in this niche of the industry helps us to develop an effective plan to ensure that every damaged property receives the appropriate extraction and drying they require in a timely and efficient manner.

Flooring can often take the worst of water damage as it spreads throughout your home. Its positioning allows pooling water to collect on top, penetrating plank seams and joints, and also saturating into the individual flooring planks as well. Within days after a loss incident, even with surface water removed and presumably dried by a homeowner, this damage can persist out of sight and cause bloating and distortion of the floor that becomes impossible to restore without reconstruction.

However, we cannot leave our drying equipment in damaged areas of your house unattended for days on end, either. Hardwood requires a specific moisture content level to maintain its shape, function, and appearance. When our professionals utilize our Injecti-Dry system to begin removing moisture from the subflooring and wood planks, we must continually monitor the moisture levels to know when enough drying has taken place.

Water loss incidents can affect many areas of your home, but to protect your hardwood and to save yourself time and money, trust our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley water restoration technicians. We have the skills and equipment to make water loss damages “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call at (208) 788-0183.

How to Take the Headache Out of Water Damage Remediation in Mountain Home

4/30/2019 (Permalink)

Don't try and tackle water damage alone. Contact SERVPRO today for help.

SERVPRO - Eliminating Water Damage in Mountain Home Neighborhoods

With its location along I-84 and near both the Air Base and Snake River, Mountain Home is a great community to work, live, and play. It does not stop the usual incidents like broken pipes or a split washing machine line from dropping water in our homes, but they seem far less important than in other towns.

When water damage happens in Mountain Home neighborhoods, SERVPRO specialists look for specific issues that can cause long-term problems for each home. These conditions can lead to more problems than just a soggy carpet.

Removing water from a wood floor can be quick, but there is the possibility water got into the sub-floor. To remove this threat, we have to either lift a floorboard or drill a hole underneath floor trim that we can use to hide the appearance later. If the amount of water is minimal, then using a pump is ineffective. Our technicians attach a hose to an air mover to force warm air into the cavity and speed up evaporation.

Water can also penetrate the walls of a home. If the damaged pipe or appliance spread water for most of a day, there can be a fairly large amount that works its way into the wall cavity where it can grow mold and bacteria. To eliminate this threat to the home and residents, SERVPRO team members remove the floor trim and drill holes near the floor to allow water to escape. After water stops seeping out, they use the same hoses and air movers to dry the cavity, preventing mold growth and the risk of rot to the wall framing behind the wood panels or other building material.

After removing the water, technicians examine carpets for delamination (separation of the upper and lower layers) and mold growth. If the separation is only a series of small spots, then the carpet may be salvageable unless an insurance adjuster directs removal. For any signs of mold growth, we recommend only disposal since we cannot provide a 100% guarantee that cleaning can remove all of the active mold spores.

For SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, our goal is to return each home to a dry, safe condition quickly. If your home has had water spill across its floors, walls, or even the ceiling from a leak in the attic, call us at (208) 788-0183 to schedule a visit with one of our inspectors to determine what we can do for you.

Water Removal in Burley Homes Gets Done Faster with SERVPRO's Help

Tub Overflow Can Damage Both Floors of Your Burley Home

Human error can attribute to many of the damages that your home could sustain throughout its lifetime. Something as basic as overfilling a bathtub on the second floor of your home could allow for widespread water damages to occur not only in that upper bathroom but to the first floor of your home and surrounding areas upstairs. Finding the right professional cleanup is critical in these situations, as often conventional drying methods can prove ineffective to substantial water loss incidents.

As potentially damaging as this situation can be for your Burley residence, acquiring the right water removal and restoration technicians quickly can help to preserve and protect exposed structural elements as well as damaged contents of your home. Our SERVPRO professionals can help with everything from water extraction from the tile and carpeted areas of your bathroom and adjoining rooms and hallways to drying out affected spaces of your home with our advanced equipment.

Extraction is vital to begin immediately after a water loss incident, as exposed materials begin to absorb spreading water right away. The longer that these elements remain saturated, the less likely they become of getting restored instead of removal and replacement. Additionally, the faster that our recovery team can arrive at your home, the faster that your house can get restored fully. Moreover, We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Tilework in your bathroom was designed to resist water penetration, but the grout joints are more susceptible to direct impact from pooling water. While the tiles themselves might not become saturated, water can penetrate beneath them to affect the subflooring and even the ceiling of the floor below. We can work in the bathroom area with drying mats, as well as use our injecti-dry system on the floor below to affect the heavy saturation that this space between levels of your house has experienced. This system can also be deployed to dry the wall cavities behind the sink cabinet.

Human errors can create many damaging situations for your property, but our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley rapid response team can help. Give us a call anytime at (208) 788-0183.
