How to Prepare for Severe Weather - 3 Simple Steps

7/14/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO logo with the text "Fire Mold Water Storm" in green Call SERVPRO today!

If you live in an area like Idaho known for severe weather, there’s a good chance your home could be affected this upcoming winter. In this short guide, we've put together three simple things you can do to prepare for severe weather this winter.

Secure Extremities

One thing that you should make sure to do if there’s a storm warning coming in is securing the extremities of your home. This means packing your trashcans into the garage, boarding up windows, and battening down your shutters. It’s all about damage control.

Move Your Car

If you drive, make sure to get your car into a more secure space. If you’re parked under trees, electrical lines, or anything else that strong winds could knock over, get your car out of there and into the safety of shelter.

Prepare a Pack

You don’t know when the storm’s going to finish, so you should be prepared with plenty of stuff to ride out the danger. Food, water, and a first aid kit are all essential things that your emergency pack should have ready.

If your home suffers in severe weather and you need storm damage restoration, get in touch with SERVPRO of Wood River Valley – "Like it never even happened."

As a business owner, you invest considerable time, effort, and resources in building your enterprise. However, unforeseen events like commercial damage can pose significant threats to your business's continuity and success. In this article, we'll explore the costs of commercial damage.

  1. Property Damage: Natural disasters and accidents can lead to property damage, resulting in structural issues, destroyed inventory, and equipment breakdowns. The costs of repairing or replacing these assets can be staggering, potentially crippling your business if you are unprepared.
  2. Operational Disruption: Commercial damage can disrupt business operations, leading to downtime and lost productivity. This not only affects your revenue stream but may also tarnish your reputation if customers experience delays or inconvenience.
  3. Inventory Loss: For businesses with physical inventories, damage to stock due to fire, water, or other disasters can be financially crippling. It may take a considerable amount of time and investment to restock and replenish the lost inventory.
  4. Employee Displacement: If your business premises suffer damage, your employees might be displaced and unable to work until the situation is resolved. This can lead to additional costs such as paid leave, temporary workspace arrangements, and decreased morale.
  5. Business Interruption: In some cases, commercial damage may lead to business interruption insurance claims, which can be complicated and time-consuming to navigate. This can further exacerbate the financial strain on your business.

Commercial damage can wreak havoc on your business and its financial health. Being aware of the potential costs and investing in a reliable restoration service can save you from overwhelming losses and ensure the swift recovery of your business.

Flooding in your house can cause all sorts of damage to your belongings, electronics, and even the structural integrity of your home. We know the risks water damage can bring, but it’s important to know what causes that damage in homes, so you can best prepare for it.

Common Causes of Water Damage

  • Damaged Pipes: This is especially common in older homes where plumbing systems can become rusted and worn down over time. Watch out for cracks and bulges in the floors and ceilings to stay one step ahead of pipe failure.
  • Kitchen Appliances: After being used for a long time, or used improperly, your white goods can start to flood the floors. Common culprits are overfilled fridges, clogged up dishwashers, and leaky washing machines.
  • Natural Disasters: Maybe there has been a hurricane, a nearby dam has broken, or your home has been caught in a major snowstorm. There are a number of possibly harmful natural occurrences that mean floodproofing your home against these eventualities is always a smart move.

If you can’t get ahead of water damage and find yourself having to deal with the fallout, don’t take it on yourself, call SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, and we’ll make it “Like it never even happened.”

Storm Damage and Severe Weather

Due to climate change, storm damage today has the potential to be more catastrophic than ever. There are various forms of severe weather that can cause storm damage, each of which is more or less common in different parts of the USA.

Hurricanes & Tropical Storms - Southeast:

Hurricanes and tropical storms are extreme winds that occur in random directions, usually coupled with masses of precipitation. Hurricanes have winds of at least 74mph, while tropical storms fall between 39-73mph. These storms occur in tropical regions, such as the Atlantic Basin, near the Caribbean Sea, and around the Gulf of Mexico.

Tornadoes - Midwest:

A tornado is a rapidly rotating column of wind that can reach speeds of up to 300mph, which can absolutely decimate flimsier properties. They usually occur around “Tornado Alley” which includes South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Northern Texas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.

Blizzards - North:

Blizzards and winter storms occur in colder weather, with a blizzard having winds of at least 35mph and generally carrying masses of snow. You’ll find blizzards in areas such as Vermont, New Hampshire, Idaho, Michigan, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

If you live in any of these areas, there are structural and additional precautions you can take to combat the effects of severe weather, however, it won’t always be enough. For a proper storm damage restoration, contact SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, we’ll make it “Like it never even happened.”

Storm Damage Cleanup - The Process

5/16/2022 (Permalink)

Water dripping off a roof with text "Storm Damage?" Call SERVPRO when a storm causes damage.

A storm, blizzard, tornado, or any other “disaster” can strike at any moment, causing severe damage to your home. If you’re lucky, you’ll be in a salvageable situation, which is when you should bring in a professional storm damage restoration company that could help your home’s recovery in various ways.

Firstly, the company should examine your home’s interior and exterior very carefully, assessing the level of damage and considering the approach that they should take to the restoration. Once they’ve analyzed the situation and considered the necessary treatment, the work will begin. Prior to bringing in more structural solutions and technology, the team should perform a deep clean wherever they can, along with bringing in dehumidifiers to combat the spread of mold and mildew. Once this is complete, the process could be anything from patching up walls to relaying roof tiles, all dependent on the type of damage present.

At SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, we work with a highly knowledgeable and capable team of technicians, with the expertise and equipment at their disposal to help your home recover effectively from storms, and any other “disasters”.

If you find yourself in a tight spot like this, call SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, and we’ll do our best to make your home feel “Like it never even happened.” with our storm damage restoration services.

Notepad with SERVPRO logo and text "ERP Emergency Ready Plan" placed over city image with text "Be Prepared" Let SERVPRO help you be prepared.

Suffering serious damage to a commercial space can feel catastrophic. Along with the cost of repairs, the looming financial pressure of potentially losing your business can be too much to bear. But with speedy and effective damage restoration, issues like commercial water damage can be resolved before you go under.

A good restoration company can deal with issues in spaces large and small, with a variety of approaches in how they approach damage repair. Large loss restoration is an important option if a large space requires structural repairs, major cleanups, or even commercial fire damage restoration. A good restoration company can also offer businesses an emergency-ready plan, giving them pre-decided options for how to approach things if disaster strikes. General and specialty cleaning services should also be offered, in the case of smaller, messier situations. Finally, you want to know that a restoration company can approach different industries in a specialized manner, adding the degree of specificity that’s necessary for different businesses.

At SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, we offer all of the commercial restoration services described in this blog, so if your business ends up in a tight spot, call SERVPRO of Wood River Valley. We’ll have an expert team over as soon as possible to begin the repairs.

The Importance of Professional Fire Restoration

Fire Cleanup Equipment in shop with wording "Emergencies Don't work business hours" with SERVPRO logo Call us today for fire restoration!

Any house fire is a tragedy, but you might be lucky enough not to lose the entire property. Upon inspecting your charred, but salvageable home, you might believe that you could complete an effective fire damage cleanup, but really, you should always bring in professionals.

Firstly, it’s unlikely that you have the proper equipment or expertise to clean the effects of the damage away – simply wiping away ashes with a mask on your face won’t cut it. Secondly, the recovery process could take much longer if you attempt to complete it yourself, as it’s not an easy task to complete. Thirdly, you could easily end up throwing away salvageable goods or things you could claim on insurance. It also goes without saying that the effects of fire could linger around the home, potentially affecting your health.

Your home is your sanctuary, so it’s crucial to recruit restoration professionals with experience in dealing with fire damage. At SERVPRO, we have an expert team of technicians with the knowledge and technology needed to help your home recover from fire damage to the best possible degree.

If you find yourself in a situation like this, call SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, and we’ll work to make your home feel “Like it never even happened.”

Flood Damage Relief In Wood River Valley

4/29/2022 (Permalink)

Pools of water on tile floor Water damage from storms can lead to lots of problems. Let us help!

Why Flood Damage Needs Professional Cleanup

If you suffer water damage after a storm, your home and its contents are at risk of further destruction. The longer things remain even damp, the more structural damages that can occur- like mold or an unpleasant odor!

When flood waters damage a Wood River Valley home, it is imperative that the premises have water cleanup efforts which go beyond using a wet/dry vac and throwing towels on floors. Moisture found in sheetrock, subflooring or other porous items can cause further issues if left unchecked for too long - especially since this type of lingering problem would be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to remove without the help of professionals who know how best handle these situations like we do here at SERVPRO!

SERVPRO technicians are certified in the science of psychrometry, or the study of air and water vapor. When we are called to mitigate water damage, our goal is to first get the affected areas as dry as possible, no matter how much water is in the home. For small-size water invasions, we have portable pumps that quickly extract the standing water in short order.

The high-volume standing rovers that use the weight of the technician operating it to force water to the surface are especially beneficial for moving out flood water quickly. The rovers are particularly adept for maneuvering around corners and in small spaces. Items too waterlogged to restore through our proprietary methods are removed. Flood cuts are often performed at this stage of cleanup to remove damaged portions of drywall well above where moisture has wicked into, so adequate airflow can dry the interior wall cavities.

Drying goals are set, and the affected areas are dried using our air movers. Special configurations are set up to direct air into flooring or wall cavities as needed. Each time our technicians set up equipment to dry a property, the setup is unique to that location as we use the angles in a structure to assist in the extraction of moist air for faster drying in tandem with dehumidifiers to capture and remove water vapor.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley stands ready to come to your property any time of the day or night to mitigate flood damage. We are available at (208) 735-1447 and have the equipment and expertise to make your water loss "Like it never even happened."

7 ways to prevent fire damage in your home

4/29/2022 (Permalink)

Smoke reaching a smoke detector If you find yourself in need of fire damage cleanup call the professionals at SERVPRO of Wood River Valley.

Here are a few interesting statistics about smoke alarms brought to you by the National Fire protection Association.

Facts and figures about smoke alarms

  • In 2014-2018, smoke alarms sounded in more than half (54%) of the home fires reported to U.S. fire departments.
  • Almost three of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms (41%) or no working smoke alarms (16%).
  • The death rate per 1,000 reported home fires was more than twice as high in homes that did not have any working smoke alarms compared to the rate in homes with working smoke alarms (13.0 deaths vs. 5.8 deaths per 1,000 fires).
  • In fires in which the smoke alarms were present but did not operate, two of every five (41%) of the smoke alarms had missing or disconnected batteries.
  • Dead batteries caused one-quarter (26%) of the smoke alarm failures.

Below are a few simple precautions you can take around your home to prevent and/or minimize a fire in your home or business.

  1. The single most important preventive measure a homeowner can take is installing and maintaining smoke/carbon monoxide alarms throughout the home.
  2. Working smoke alarms should be found in each bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home.
  3. Change the batteries in smoke/carbon monoxide alarms changed regularly. (A good time to do so is when the time changes in the spring and fall.)
  4. Make sure you have an accessible fire extinguisher on each level of your home and be sure everyone in the house knows how to properly extinguish a blaze.
  5. Reduce the risk of fire outside of the home by removing dying or dead trees and shrubs and by also keeping drybrush and debris at least 30 feet away from the home.
  6. Keep gutters, roof, and eaves clear of debris?
  7. Be sure any candles in the home are placed away from curtains and other furniture, as well as out of reach of children and pets.

If you find yourself in need of fire damage cleanup call the professionals at SERVPRO of Wood River Valley.

The Truth About Mold Removal

4/14/2022 (Permalink)

water damaged wall with orange SERVPRO logo The SERVPRO team is highly qualified and trained in all facets of mold and mold removal.

Did you know that removing all mold from a home or business is absolutely impossible?

Microscopic mold spores are a natural part of the world and are prevalent almost everywhere. The SERVPRO team is not just "faster to any disaster", we are highly qualified and trained in all facets of mold and mold removal. Though mold removal is often fairly straightforward, it's still wise to hire SERVPRO of Wood River Valley to come and assess the situation. Sure, you can Google "what products remove mold" or "handyman mold removal near me," yet because of the complexities of mold itself, you may not be able to eradicate the problem as a professional team can.

When water damage occurs, mold can begin to grow in as little as 48 hours. This time frame is important, especially because mold is more problematic for children, the elderly, or anyone with respiratory issues. Mold can also enter your home via open windows, your HVAC system, a pet, or even by attaching to shoes or clothing. Mold thrives on moisture and is often prevalent in bathrooms. When mold spores have entered your home, they can quickly become colonies when exposed to moisture or water. The mold colonies grow incredibly rapidly, producing allergens that are often harmful to our health. When mold has been caused by water damage, the first thing that must happen is for the water and any moisture residue to be removed and thoroughly dried to ensure that the mold doesn't return.

Mold often produces a terrible odor, and some describe it as a "musty" smell. Most people describe this smell as under their carpet or within the drywall of their home or business. If you notice a strong smell in your home or business area subject to high amounts of moisture, you may have mold. Mold thrives on moisture, and rooms with high humidity can easily succumb to mold spores. To help prevent mold from spreading in humid spaces, keep the indoor humidity below 45%.

If and when you smell the musty odor or your space has had significant water damage, it's crucial to call the SERVPRO of Wood River Valley team immediately at (208) 735-1447. You'll want to stay out of the affected area and turn off your heating or air conditioning unit, as that is an easy way to feed the mold colony's growth. It may be tempting, but don't try to start the cleaning process of the mold yourself, but the smart decision is to let the SERVPRO team be the one to eradicate it for you. In some cases, the use of bleach or something similar will work for small areas. If you can smell the odor, chances are, the mold has grown to a point a professional removal team is necessary.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley are trained in handling and removing all types of mold. We are trained in what to look for in the spreading of molds. We are equipped with the highest-end equipment to prevent the further spreading of all types of mold. You can trust us to thoroughly inspect an area and ask the appropriate questions to know what safety materials and equipment to use. Not only will we remove the mold, but we will also remove the musty odor and restore your space to what it was before mold took over.

What To Do When Water Damage Occurs

4/13/2022 (Permalink)

water damage on floor near corner wall We hope you never experience water damage, but if and when you do, we will treat it and work to restore your space to what it was.

Water damage is a more common occurrence that plagues many homes and businesses. Even in small amounts, any water damage that is left untreated compromises the structure of the house or building and is also a health risk. When left unattended, water damage can eat through concrete, cause electrical shortages, affect structural foundations, and breed toxic molds. In most cases, professional services from SERVPRO are necessary, if only for the safety of you and those occupying the water-damaged space with you.

First and foremost, when water damage occurs, the priority needs to be safety. If you cannot safely remain in the space, evacuate immediately. Keeping safety first, remember that wet materials can be extremely heavy. Don't move wet furniture or rugs without help, and even then, it isn't wise to risk your health or bodily injury. Water damage can become complicated (and very dangerous) when electricity is involved. Slip and fall hazards are a prevalent concern as people often don't remember how slippery floors make things more challenging.

While you wait for SERVPRO of Southern Wood Valley to arrive and you've assessed if you can safely be in the space, there are some tasks you can do to help prevent long-term damage.

  1. Wipe down any wood furniture (after removing anything on the top of the furniture).
  2. Use mops and towels to remove excess standing water.
  3. If your upholstery is wet, remove any cushions and place them in a dry spot to begin drying and reshaping.
  4. If the carpet is wet and you cannot thoroughly remove the furniture, place wooden blocks or aluminum foil between the legs and carpet.
  5. Remove all rugs (if able to).
  6. If it's summertime, turn the Air Conditioning on full blast to start the drying process.
  7. Remove any items off the floor that can be moved to a dry location.

When a disaster like water damage strikes, it can make us all freeze and not know what to do next. It's important to share things not to do after water damage happens.

  1. If your ceiling is experiencing water damage, do not turn on your ceiling fan, and stay out of that room in case of a ceiling collapse.
  2. Hang all wet fabrics to dry (rugs, furs, leathers, etc.)
  3. Remove any colored items off the wet floor (books, magazines, art supplies, toys, etc.)
  4. Don't use any electrical appliances in that room (I.e., television, refrigerator, hairdryer, streaming devices, etc.)
  5. Never use your home vacuum to remove standing water.

Using SERVPRO for any water damage emergency is the choice to make. Not only is our team professionally trained and equipped with the highest-grade equipment, and we will help you with your insurance claim too. When water damage occurs, there are often terrible lingering odors left on the furniture and other personal items. The Southern Idaho SERVPRO team can safely, effectively, and efficiently clean furniture, upholstery, and other personal belongings.

We hope you never experience water damage, but if and when you do, we will treat it and work to restore your space to what it was. Our team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Flooded Home in Sun Valley?

A large water stain can be seen growing on a ceiling. We are trusted leaders in water damage restoration in Blaine County.

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley is committed to providing our customers with the best service and support. Here is a recent Google review that says it all:

“I’m going to preface this review with the fact that I have used and been highly dissatisfied with two other local companies. If you are shopping for a water/mold mitigation company, don’t mess around, hire these guys!

An ice dam during the ridiculous Sun Valley winter of 2018-19 led us to hire SERVPRO. I’m not going to lie, I must have PTSD from previous experiences. As water dripped down my ceiling and walls, I felt hopeless. Time passed, and I knew I needed to figure it out. Dr. Google surprised me with SERVPRO’s contact info, and within hours, the owner, Luke, arrived at my house to begin the process of saving my home and my sanity.

Luke, Eric (manager), and the entire crew were professional, timely, and helpful. The extensive water/mold mitigation work they did on my home, with my contractor, and with my PITA insurance company was completely unmatched. Additionally, I’m an over-communicator of sorts, and each phone call was met with incredible customer service!” Kelly Choma

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley has been restoring water damage for Richfield residents and businesses for years. Frozen and burst pipes are a common issue this time of year. Here are some tips from the Insurance Information Institute for things you can do if you discover that your pipes are frozen:

  • If you discover that pipes are frozen, don’t wait for them to burst. Take measures to thaw them immediately, or call a plumber for assistance.
  • If your pipes burst, first turn off the water and then mop up spills. You don’t want the water to do more damage than it already has.
  • Call your agent or company as soon as you can. An insurance adjuster doesn’t need to see the spill before you take action. However, they will want to inspect any damaged items.

Wood-burning Stove Fire in Hailey?

12/23/2021 (Permalink)

Heating Safety Tips

For a time, I lived in Hailey with a wood-burning stove as my only source of heat. It was nice to hear the fire crackling away and to feel the warmth of the fire. It wasn’t until I had to inspect the roof for a leak that I noticed that the stovepipe cap was not fastened onto the roof - it was just propped up there with no fasteners! Wind could have blown the stovepipe cap off at any time causing a fire. Yikes!

Fire damage happens more frequently during the cooler winter months, but it can happen at any time. [Franchise name and hyperlink] has been mitigating fire damage in [city name] for years. Here are some heating safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association to help prevent heating fires:

  • Install wood burning stoves following manufacturer’s instructions or have a professional do the installation
  • All fuel-burning equipment should be vented to the outside to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from heating equipment like the fireplace, furnace, wood stove, or portable space heater
  • Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional
  • Test smoke alarms at least once a month

When the roof to our office complex leaked, enough moisture came into the building to create a mold problem. There was a musty odor that I could not locate anywhere in the building. • Mold spores thrive on moisture
  • Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed to discourage the mold from returning

Winterizing Tips for Mountain Home

12/20/2021 (Permalink)

A dripping faucet is shown. We are leaders in water damage restoration in Elmore County.

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley responds to many water damage emergencies in Mountain Home each year. During the winter months, frozen and burst pipes are a common problem. Here are some helpful tips from The Insurance Information Institute to keep your pipes from freezing:

  • Identify the location for the main water shutoff in your home
  • Open hot and cold faucets enough to let them drip slowly. Keeping water moving within the pipes will prevent freezing.
  • If you haven’t already, make sure all hoses are disconnected from outside spigots
  • If your garage is attached to your house, keep the garage doors closed. The door leading to the house is probably not as well-insulated as an exterior door.
  • Keep the house heated to a minimum of 65 degrees. The temperature inside the walls where the pipes are located is substantially colder than the walls themselves. A temperature lower than 65 degrees will not keep the inside walls from freezing.
  • If you plan to be away for an extended period of time, have the water system drained by a professional to keep pipes from freezing or bursting

A pine tree has blown over onto the side of a house. We mitigate storm damage 24-hours a day in Blaine County.

High Winds Safety Rules

Strong winds are a common form of storm damage in the Hailey area. High winds can cause property damage when the wind carries tree branches, patio décor, or other miscellaneous items that become projectiles carried by the wind into windows, siding, and roofs.

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley has been restoring storm damage for years and offer these High Wind Safety Rules from the National Weather Service:

The safest place to be during high winds is indoors.

Postpone outdoor activities if a wind advisory or high wind warning has been issued.

If you are caught outside during high winds:

  • Stand clear of roadways or train tracks, as a gust may blow you into the path of an oncoming vehicle
  • Use handrails where available on outdoor walkways and avoid other elevated areas such as roofs without adequate railing

Water Damage Prevention Tips for Bellevue?

6/2/2021 (Permalink)

A water shut off valve is shown. We mitigate commercial property damage 24-hours a day in Blaine County.

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley has been restoring water damage in the Bellevue area for years, and in many cases, the damage could have been avoided by maintaining the home’s indoor plumbing systems. Here are some plumbing maintenance tips from the Insurance Information Institute:

Know the location of the main water shut-off valve in your home

A damaged hose or a burst pipe can send water racing into your home.

Being able to locate and shut off the main water supply quickly will save stress, money, and time.

Inspect appliance hoses and faucets

Make it a practice every year to check hoses leading to water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, and refrigerator ice makers. Immediately replace any hoses that have cracks or leaks and replace them all every five to seven years.

Inspect showers and tubs

Check the seal and caulking around showers and tubs to make sure they are watertight and reseal if necessary.

When away on vacation, shut off the water supply to the washing machine, and never leave the house while the washer or dishwasher is running.

Check plumbing and heating pipes

Look closely for cracks and leaks and have any necessary repairs made immediately.

Clogged rain gutters in Hailey?

SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley responds to water damage emergencies in Hailey throughout the year, and we know that many forms of water damage can be minimized through routine maintenance of the rain gutters and downspouts around your home. Water intrusion can occur when rain gutters and downspouts become clogged with leaves and other debris, causing water to back up onto the roof. Here are some tips from Home Depot to keep your rain gutters clean:

  • Regular and thorough cleaning helps keep gutters in tip-top shape. It requires only a few tools and an afternoon to get water flowing from your roof and away from your home.
  • Cleaning gutters in early spring will prepare them for the heavy spring and summer rains. In the early fall, clear out leaves and other debris that accumulated during the warmer months.
  • When possible, avoid cleaning gutters after a rain. Allowing a few dry days before cleaning your gutters will allow the debris to dry out, making the chore much easier.
  • Start your gutter cleaning task near the downspout and work toward the closed-end

Water Damage in Wood River Valley Home?

4/26/2021 (Permalink)

A staircase leading down to a converted basement is shown. We are trusted leaders in water restoration in Blaine County.

Water damage happens.

When our newly remodeled basement living area flooded, we were devastated. Our neighbor told us to call SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley and I’m glad we did. They arrived quickly and assessed the damage, and immediately began the cleanup and restoration process. They moved all of the furniture and equipment and used powerful water extraction equipment to get the water out of the floors and carpeting. They set up air movers and blowers and monitored and documented the drying process. Every one of our belongings exposed to the water was cleaned, sanitized, and deodorized using Environmental Protection Agency-approved products. They contacted our insurance adjuster and helped us with the insurance paperwork and process. In just a couple of days, our basement was restored to preloss condition!

Water is invasive, and it will seep into and underneath anything it can. Although every job is unique, this is the process we typically use to mitigate water damage:

Step 1: Emergency Contact

Step 2: Inspection and Damage Assessment

Step 3: Water Removal/Water Extraction

Step 4: Drying and Dehumidification

Step 5: Cleaning and Repair

Step 6: Restoration

Commercial lighting equipment safety information for Wood River Valley

4/26/2021 (Permalink)

According to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), one of the most common causes of commercial fires is electrical and lighting equipment. This type of fire is not easily predicted, as the lighting equipment can look totally fine on the outside in your Wood River Valley business. SERVPRO® of Wood River Valley wants to share the following information about commercial fires and how safety equipment helps to lessen the damage and can assist in preventing any bodily injury:

  • Wet pipe sprinklers installed in the ceilings of commercial buildings are very effective in helping to fight the fire(s)
  • Building sprinklers should be examined and tested every 5 years
  • There should always be a fire extinguisher in reach inside of a commercial building and they must be checked annually to ensure they are in working order
  •  If an office building is on fire, exit the building immediately and do not try to fight the fire yourself
  • If there is a lot of smoke inside the building, cover your mouth and nose and do your best to not inhale any of it

In the unfortunate event that a commercial building does catch fire, rest assured that SERVPRO of Wood River Valley is prepared to help clean up any fire damage the building/area has sustained.

Tips for Staying Safe During a Storm in Wood River Valley

4/25/2021 (Permalink)

Common safety rules and precautions state that the public should generally try to stay inside of a safe area or building when a lightning storm or thunderstorm occurs. There are many commercial buildings in the Wood River Valley area. SERVPRO of Wood River Valley wants to share the following safety tips for staying safe during a thunderstorm while inside a commercial building:

  • Stay away from all windows or glass walls, especially during a lightning storm
  • Unplug appliances if possible
  • Pay attention to all alerts and warnings, as a thunderstorm can develop into a tornado if powerful enough
  • Avoid running water if possible since electricity can travel through plumbing

Weather is unpredictable. Although the weather can be predicted, it can also change in an instant without much warning. If a thunderstorm does happen to turn into tornado weather in SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, consider the following tips:

  • If the commercial building has a basement or storm cellar, head there immediately
  • Use your arms to protect your head and neck in the event of flying debris or shattered windows
  • Do not leave the safe area until the local alerting system says it is safe to do so

Remember, SERVPRO of Wood River Valley is here to help. Our trained team members will show up ready to go and can assist in cleanup and restoration after a thunderstorm, lightning storm, and even a tornado.

In-home fire safety for the Wood River Valley area

4/25/2021 (Permalink)

Fall is quickly approaching! That means all of the fall activities are about to begin in Wood River Valley if they haven’t already! One popular item associated with the fall season is the candle. If a house smells like fall, it feels like home. SERVPRO of Wood River Valley knows that candle fires happen and even though candles are small, the damage of a residential fire by a candle can turn out to be larger than expected.

Here are some candle fire safety tips for the Wood River Valley area:

  • When lighting a candle in the home, keep the candle at least twelve inches away from anything that can burn
  • Try to avoid keeping a lit candle in bedrooms, bathrooms or sleeping areas
  • Do not leave a lit candle where a child or family pet can access or reach it

One more important candle safety tip will tie to one of the above tips about not leaving a lit candle in the bathroom. When cleaning a bathroom using aerosol chemicals, this becomes extremely dangerous if there is a lit candle nearby. Aerosols are highly flammable and this can cause an explosion of sorts – please practice safety first and share this tip with friends and family who may not be aware of it.

If a Wood River Valley home catches fire for any reason, including a candle, please call the trained professionals atSERVPRO of Wood River Valley so we can help clean up the fire mess and damage.

From 30 feet to 100 feet reduce or replace as much of the most flammable vegetation as possible and prune vegetation, create “fuel breaks,” such as driveways, gravel walkways, and lawns.
  • Work with neighbors to create spaces up to 200 feet around your homes where vegetation is thinned to remove underbrush and tall trees do not touch each other for continuous canopies.
  • Regularly clean the roof and gutters
  • Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water
  • Review your homeowner’s insurance policy and also prepare or update a list of your home’s contents.

Thunderstorm preparedness in Wood River Valley

4/5/2021 (Permalink)

Thunderstorms are beautiful, but they can also be dangerous.  They can cause severe damage to your home and property in Wood River Valley. Thunderstorms include lightning and can:

  • Include winds over 50 MPH
  • Create hail
  • Cause flash floods
  • Cause tornadoes

In most places, a thunderstorm can happen at any time of the year and at any time of the day.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley knows you cannot prevent a thunderstorm, but you can prepare:

  • Know the risk for thunderstorms in Wood River Valley
  • Sign up for your community’s warning system
  • Cut down or trim trees that may fall on your home or office
  • Install surge protectors, lightning rods, or a lightning protection system

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley repeats the warning, “When thunder roars, go indoors”.  You don’t have to wait for the thunder. If there is a thunderstorm warning, go inside. Once there:

  • Unplug appliances
  • Do not use landline phones in office or home
  • Pay attention to alerts and warnings

If you can’t get inside a building:

  • If you are swimming or in a boat, get to land immediately.  Find shelter

Water Damage

1/26/2021 (Permalink)

Having kids means that your home can go through many messes, including ones that leave you in need of water removal services. However, you may be wondering how you can tackle the mess by yourself so that you are not continually calling professional help to your home. If you called for help with every mess your child made, you would quickly find yourself racking up expenses. However, always remember that you should call for professional help if you are unsure of how to fix the damage, or if it is particularly beyond your expertise.

You might be wondering what the best course of action is for you to complete a DIY water removal for your Jerome home. When it comes to water spills, acting fast is critical. Your timing can often mean the difference between a cleanup job and a water damage remediation job.

Here at SERVPRO, we always recommend that the very first step is to stop the source of water from making the mess even larger. In the case of your home, this is an easy task. Turn off the faucet and then drain the tub, before immediately finding something that you can use to absorb the excess water. A wet/dry vacuum is ideal for removing standing water, but not every home is equipped with such equipment, which is a reason many people choose to reach out for professional help. When you call SERVPRO, we already have all the tools you need to get the job done fast.

If a wet/dry vacuum isn't a possibility, towels are an acceptable stand-in to clean up the water damage. However, it may take several to remove all of the water that was spilled. Once finished, SERVPRO recommends placing a space heater in your bathroom. Doing so can help dry any excess moisture and prevent microbial growth. Now that the damage is handled, you can relax. Nevertheless, always remember to reach out for professional help if the job seems out of your scope of expertise, to ensure the longevity of your home.

If you find your home in the pressing need of water removal services, get help immediately. Speak with SERVPRO Wood River Valley by phoning (208) 788-0183. We're here to help 24/7.

Shower Mold

12/24/2020 (Permalink)

Your bathroom provides an ideal environment for black mold because of the constant use of water and the high levels of humidity. The good news is that you can clean up some of that unsightly shower mold between visits from Wood River Valley Idaho, mold remediation professionals. Before you get started, remember a few vital tips:

Vital Tips to Clean Up Unsightly Shower Mold

  • Never mix bleach, vinegar, and other cleaning products.
  • When you treat the surface mold, hidden growth is still present behind the tiles where you can't reach.

It's good to conduct surface cleaning regularly, but it's still necessary to have professionals visit to get rid of mold hidden by the shower walls, the ceiling, and the floor.

Use a Homemade Solution

You can use undiluted vinegar in a spray bottle. Full-strength vinegar is the most effective, and you don't need to wipe the vinegar away. Within an hour or two, you shouldn't be bothered by vinegar smell anymore. Alternatively, you could mix 1 cup of Borax or bleach with a gallon of water and put this mixture in your spray bottle. The Borax spray doesn't need to be rinsed off, but the bleach spray must be rinsed away. Remember that bleach releases toxic fumes.

Wipe and Scrub Affected Surfaces

It's important that you get the right amount of spray on the shower mold, so that there's an even coating, but not so much liquid that you increase the potential for mold growth. Use a clean cloth or sponge to wipe the area down. Pull out a scrub brush for stubborn areas. Don't use that brush for anything else, or you'll risk spreading mold throughout your home. Moldy grout can be particularly hard to clean.

Replace Grout, Tiles, and Other Surfaces

If you can't get rid of mold stains, there's probably a deeper problem. This should be addressed by professionals. Removing wallboard, tiles, or wallpaper can release mold spores into the air, allowing them to float into other rooms of your home.

Shower mold may be a common occurrence, but this doesn't lessen the severity of this risks of associated with this fungus in your home. Make sure you take steps to clean up and treat mold as soon as you see or suspect its presence.

Commercial Water Loss

12/8/2020 (Permalink)

All flood water is not created equal — even if it’s all equally frustrating. When a flood strikes your Wood River Valley commercial property, it’s important to know which category of water you’re dealing with, especially if that water is black water.

Category 1 Water

Water from a flood is classified into one of three categories, and of the three, this is the most benign. Category 1 water comes from a clean source, such as the following:

  • Drinking fountains
  • Toilet tanks
  • Faucets
  • Water supply lines

This type of water is free from contaminants and is generally safe for you to clean up on your own if you have the time and equipment. That said, if left untouched, Category 1 water can easily turn into Category 2 water.

Category 2 Water

Often referred to as “gray water,” this type of flood water likely contains bacteria that could make you sick if you ingest it. Category 2 water is the product of a variety of sources:

  • Sink drains
  • Failed sump pumps
  • Dishwashers
  • Washing machines
  • Toilets containing urine only
  • Seepage

Because of its unsanitary nature, it’s best to contact a flood damage restoration company to help you clean up after Category 2 flooding.

Category 3 Water

Category 3, or "black," water gets its name from the elevated level of contamination present. This type of water is typically highly toxic and should always be managed by professionals since contact with it can lead to considerable illness and other health problems. Its sources typically include the following:

  • Rivers and streams
  • Toilets containing liquid and solid waste
  • Sewer backup
  • Seawater
  • Storm surge
  • Stagnant water (where bacteria has likely begun to grow)

When in doubt, enlist the help of your local flood and storm damage mitigation company to help you clean up flood water. In addition to being the safest course of action, it’s also often the quickest way to return your property to its pre-flood state.

Common Consequences of Water Damage

12/7/2020 (Permalink)

When people think of water, it is often in regards to sandy beaches or long, relaxing soaks in the tub. Hardly any homeowner thinks about water damage unless they actually experience it first-hand.
However, when a homeowner experiences such damage or threat of it, they likely fear the worst. Thankfully, water problems vary in the degree of challenges, and while there are significant and costly issues that may arise, the three most likely are as follow:

  • Wallboard and ceiling tiles
  • Flooring
  • Cabinets and furniture

3 Common Consequences of Water Damage

1. Wallboard and Ceiling Tiles

Many people realize they need a plumbing repair because they find staining on wallboards or ceilings tiles. The staining is an indicator of where the problem is, but it doesn't always mean there is a significant problem. Sometimes, a large stain can stem from a small leak, meaning repairs are minor.

2. Flooring

Pipes also run under your flooring, which can lead to significant problems in the event of a pipe break. However, even water damage stemming from a sink leak can lead to issues with your flooring. While water may cause irreversible damage to laminate and other flooring types, hardwoods can often be sanded down and refinished. However, you will need to inspect the subfloor, and you might want to hire a mitigation service in Wood River Valley, for such an inspection.

3. Cabinets and Furniture

A supply line break can also damage cabinets and furniture, depending on its location. The quality of the furniture and cabinetry will also play a role in the salvageability of the materials. If made from hardy woods and materials, the pieces can likely be restored, but if the furniture or cabinets use particleboard and MDF, the damage is likely permanent.

As a homeowner, it is vital to familiarize yourself with common water damage issues. Knowing about the possible problems can help you in your preparation and home management.

Remediation companies are great for content cleaning of permanent fixtures and removing damaged content from the premises. The team will use chemical cleaners and steam machines to restore smoke damaged non-porous items. They will also use technology, like ultrasonic systems. The primary goal of these companies is to ensure that the building is sanitized and deodorized before the restoration process.

Specialized Cleaners

If your business has unique documents that were damaged in the fire, then you may need the expertise of specialized cleaners. There are specific restoration experts that can salvage porous items, like paper and photos. If the fire damaged your files, then reach out to one of these specialists. 1. Install Automatic Fire Sprinklers.

As many authorities know, having an automatic fire sprinkler on your property can reduce the risk of fire by up to 71%. Additionally, sprinklers can decrease your insurance premium. To keep your sprinkler in excellent condition, be sure that it is not blocked by dirt or paint. Also, be sure to inspect regularly your main control valve so that it is not left off.

2. Conduct Fire Emergency Training.

The training can help prevent your staff members from being victimized. Here are a few subjects that should be covered in the emergency training:

Hazard Recognition

Keep all combustible chemicals and materials away from heat-generating and electrical equipment.

Prevention

Inspect your power sources regularly and don't overload your extension cords and outlets.

Water Damage

11/10/2020 (Permalink)

Most Common Causes of Water Damage in Commercial Bathrooms

  • Faucet leaks. A simple faucet leak can waste thousands of gallons of water per year, which can lead to higher utility costs. A pipe leak below the sink can also damage structures.
  • Running toilets. Small leaks can cause toilets to run continually, which can mean paying more on your water bill. Without fast mitigation, this can eventually lead to clogging.
  • Silent pipe leaks. Keep an eye on your water bill. An undetected pipe leak behind a wall, underneath the floors, or in the ceiling is the most likely source of your increased expenses.
  • Low water pressure. This problem in your sinks, toilets, or showers can be caused by sediment buildup on pipes or aerators. It can also indicate a more critical problem like a break in your water line.
  • Temperature irregularities. Not able to keep the hot water in the showers on as long? This can indicate buildup or leakage in your water heater.

Water Damage

DO-

  • Shut off the source of water if at all possible or contact a qualified person to stop the water.(city water department, plumber)
  • If water has affected anything electrical, turn off the power to the affected area at the breaker box if it is safe to do so.
  • Remove as much water as possible by mopping and blotting.
  • Wipe excess water off of wood furniture after removing table top items.
  • Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and flooring.
  • Remove any paintings, documents, computers or any other materials that are valuable or sensitive and store them in an unaffected, dry area of the house.
  • Hang curtains and/or draperies off of the floor.
  • Take and furs and/or leather items to a separate dry space at room temperature.

DON’T-

  • Enter rooms with standing water where electrical shock hazards may exist.
  • Enter affected areas if electrical outlets, switches or any other electrical equipment has been exposed to water.
  • Leave books, magazines, newspapers or any other colored items on wet flooring and/or furniture to prevent staining.
  • Leave wet Oriental rugs or any rug, on a carpeted surface to prevent staining.
  • Use your household vacuum cleaner to remove water.
  • Use TVs or any other appliance while sitting in wet material.
  • Enter rooms or turn on light fixtures in a room where the ceiling is wet or sagging from retained water.
  • Wait to call our team. The longer you wait to call, the more secondary damage is occurring.

Winter Freeze

11/10/2020 (Permalink)

Cold Temperature Challenges

Lower temperatures can make water removal and structural drying trickier. Even though the water seeping into your home is just above freezing, it still has the potential to carry contaminants, including chemicals and human waste, into your home. The municipal stormwater system is likely overwhelmed, and street drains can be blocked with ice and slush. Our employees might need to start by shoveling frozen water out of your basement or lower levels if the pressure of meltwater and snow washed out foundation walls. Our extraction equipment contains the contaminated liquid, and SERVPRO’s familiarity with local hazardous waste disposal requirements assures we manage it for you properly.  The team of certified technicians is prepared to handle any size loss and get your home back to pre loss condition.

Fire Damage Restoration

11/10/2020 (Permalink)

-Fire and its devastating effects

Fire is one of the most devastating disasters a family can face. It can both destroy your home as well as your belongings in two stages. The original fire and then the damage caused by smoke and soot. We at SERVPRO have the products and training to help restore as much of your loss as possible.

-secondary damages from smoke

Secondary damages from smoke can cause up to 75% of the total loss. Combustion of home building materials such as PVC can produce an acidic smoke and residue. This can cause etching of glass, deterioration of electronics and many other secondary issues. One important thing to remember is how quickly secondary damages will occur. Within hours, plastics will begin to yellow, clothes may become stained or deteriorated, and the same may happen to other soft goods like couches or rugs. It’s very important to move quickly so we can restore items first before having to replace them.

-Our cleaning process

Our highly trained and certified staff know how to respond to a fire. Some important steps would be to clean what we can inside the structure ASAP to prevent tarnishing of metals and etching of glass, pack out affected materials to be restored, isolate those materials, use an ozone machine to chemically remove odors, and use vacuums equipped with hepa filters to remove much of the soot. We use many of our own chemicals and cleaners that are made by and specifically for SERVPRO in order to clean structures efficiently.

Fire Damage Restoration

11/10/2020 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Wood River Valley will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Fire Damage Indoor Air Quality

After the first responders and firefighters have left your Sun Valley home, and the flames have gotten extinguished, you begin to determine the steps necessary to return your home to preloss conditions. While taking care of the immediate structural issues becomes a priority, you also have to consider whether conditions are safe within the home. Our experienced technicians can do the work safely, and address indoor air quality concerns which could pose health risks to those exposed.

When it comes to overcoming fire damages in your Sun Valley home, our professionals have continual training in safety techniques and the use of personal protective equipment designed to protect them in potentially harmful situations. After a fire, many factors could impact the overall air quality within the property such as smoke, debris, soot, chemicals, and contaminants. We have the advanced technology designed to remove these threats fast.

Our franchise prides itself on the inventory of advanced equipment made available to our trained technicians dispatched to emergencies throughout our service area. Air scrubbers are among one of the most important machines that we can use to improve the air quality within a home quickly, as these devices can trap debris, particulates, mold spores, and dust as small as 0.3 microns.

Deodorization is another concern for both the homeowner and our restoration team, and there are many solutions that we have to remove foul odors like smoke damages from your home and its contents. Ozone chambers can help to neutralize odor molecules present in the contents of your home, but they get removed to a safe location to do this as the early stages of this process can prove fatal to humans and pets. We also offer thermal fogging technology to release a dense chemical compound to neutralize odor molecules in the environment, fabrics, carpets, clothing, and other areas.

Having the right tools for the job can make restoration after a fire go much more quickly. We strive to minimize the impact on our customer’s lives as we restore the damage their property has endured, and that begins with having the industry-leading equipment to do it efficiently. Commercial Water Loss

10/21/2020 (Permalink)

Water loss incidents can spread quickly throughout your Mountain Home hotel, which in turn can affect multiple areas simultaneously. The only effective way to reduce costs in restoration and mitigation for a substantial water loss incident is to respond to the situation quickly by reaching out to our professionals. Our team has a 24-hour response to emergencies, making us able to handle large loss recovery situations like this by working immediately to thwart their spread throughout the building.

There are many effective strategies for water damage mitigation in your Mountain Home hotel, and our professionals can work quickly to get them started upon our arrival. With our vast inventory of extraction and drying equipment, we can effectively handle even widespread effects that impact large portions of your hotel simultaneously. Our mitigation efforts begin with effective extraction equipment designed to remove pooling water and oversaturation quickly to reduce distortion of construction materials that lead to required removal and replacement.

Drying is one of the most efficient ways to prevent catastrophic loss with a considerable volume of water spreading throughout the property. The use of air movers, LGR and desiccant dehumidifiers, and our Injecti-dry system can help to curb the spread of the damage while protecting exposed elements. Air movers can get installed in many places throughout the hotel to begin forcing heated air into many areas and saturated materials. These machines force moisture into the environment, which then our effective dehumidifiers capture and remove from the vicinity.

While substantial water damage incidents that occur in your hotel tend to require some degree of tear our and reconstruction, the faster that our SERVPRO professionals can get to work on drying efforts, the better able to prevent this reconstruction and renovation we become.

We strive to provide fast service and mitigation work that lowers restoration costs and makes the process more efficient. Whenever disaster strikes, you can trust our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley response team to bring the full measure of our extraction and drying equipment to make it “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call today at (208) 788-0183.

My Mountain Home Restaurant Has Fire Damage, Where Can I Get Help?

5/18/2020 (Permalink)

heavy fire damage in kitchen Fire damage can be severe and close your restaurant. SERVPRO can quickly restore your business.

Call a Company Firm that Offers Commercial Fire Damage Restoration in Mountain Home

Restaurants are continually at risk for fire. The flames can burst out unexpectedly because of faulty cooking equipment or negligence on the part of the staff. The chances of a fire occurring are high in restaurants where many people handle the equipment.

What steps should I take after the fire?

After your Mountain Home restaurant sustains commercial fire damage, it is essential to contact your insurance firm to determine coverage. An insurance adjuster can visit the premises to examine the extend of the damage and begin the claims filing process. It is critical to start the fire restoration process quickly. Remember that furnishings, walls, and other surfaces can begin to discolor minutes after exposure to fire and smoke. The longer that smoke residue remains on a surface, the harder it is to recover the affected items. Calling SERVPRO as soon as possible can help minimize long term damage and the items that need replacing.

What are the benefits of hiring a fire restoration company?

Hiring a professional fire damage restoration firm can keep restoration costs lower in the long term and increase the chances of saving décor and furnishings. The process of cleaning soot and scorch marks is thorough and detailed. Even though the fire may be confined mostly to the kitchen, the dining area may also have sustained damaging smoke. Soot can clog up air filters for days or weeks, and smoke odor is difficult to remove. Smoke particles can also cause:

  • Paint and plastics to become discolored.
  • Metals to start tarnishing.
  • A foul odor to emanate from fabrics and upholstery.

Fire damage in a restaurant can leave employees out of work until the building is repaired and can reopen. Our fire restoration experts can remove the soot damage and deep clean the affected areas to help you get back to normal operations.

Is it possible to have hidden fire damage?

Yes, hidden fire damage is a severe problem. If restorers miss any area, it can have an impact on the safety of your restaurant. Our SERVPRO team can decontaminate crawl spaces, HVAC systems, and air vents so that soot does not cause unpleasant odors and discoloration. We can thoroughly search for hidden smoke damage and safely clean all the affected areas of the restaurant. We apply the elements and principles of cleaning to restore materials to preloss sate and reduce the loss expense of your fire claim.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley is available on an emergency basis to handle fire damage in commercial properties. Call us at (208) 788-0183 for a quick, effective restoration of your restaurant.

My Burley Home Has Flooded, Where Can I get Assistance?

5/9/2020 (Permalink)

home interior suffering water damage We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster!

You Can Call SERVPRO to Perform Flood damage Restoration in your Burley Home

Flooding in a home can be frightening and more devastating than you realize. Apart from the short term effects that you may notice immediately, you should be concerned about the long term effects. It is vital to hire a flood damage restoration company as soon as you can.

What are the short and long term effects of flood damage?
When a flood damages your Burley residence, you may experience some effects without proper flood restoration. These effects include, but is not limited to:

    •    Damaged belongings – Even minor flooding can cause damage to your belongings. Some of your belongings can be salvaged, and others must be discarded. Our SERVPRO team can classify the items into salvageable and unsalvageable categories.
    •    Unsanitary conditions – It is necessary to clean up your home after flood damage to eliminate microorganisms that can cause disease. Our team can wear the right attire and take the appropriate steps to remove the water and clean up the affected areas.
    •    Electrical damage – Floodwater can affect fuses, circuit breakers, light fixtures, appliances, and wiring, among other electrical items. If your electronics or appliances were submerged in the water, make sure a professional checks them before you plug them back into a source of power.
    •    Unpleasant odors – Flooded homes often have unpleasant smells that are difficult to eliminate. After you walk into your flooded home, you may notice a subtle or strong musty odor in it. Using air fresheners or lighting candles cannot mask the smell. Cleaning your home thoroughly and deodorizing it is the only way to get rid of the foul smell.
    •    Loss of value of your home – After a flooding incident, you could face a significant loss of value for your house. Failing to address flood damage adequately can make your home worth less than it is. You can maintain your home’s value if you let our team restore it. Save the paperwork related to the flood restoration project so you can have proof that professionals adequately and properly repaired it. This can help you find a buyer easily when the time to sell your home comes.
    •    Mold development – Molds grow in damp, warm areas with poor ventilation. This kind of environment has nutrients like cardboard, wood, and fabrics, which are an excellent breeding ground for mold.

What is involved in the restoration process?
After arriving at a flood-damaged property, SERVPRO technicians ask several questions to understand the resources and equipment ended to restore it. We perform an inspection and testing to determine the scope of water damage. We describe the current conditions to the customers and explain the restorative process.

It is also critical to remove the water quickly and dispose of it in the right manner. Our team can use various equipment to complete the water removal project. They include:

    •    Powerful pumps to remove the water fast to prevent secondary water damage.
    •    Air moving equipment to improve evaporation at the surface level and reduce drying time.
    •    Dehumidifiers to eliminate moisture from the air. Reducing the amount of moisture in the air lowers the humidity ratio, which helps enhance the evaporation of moisture in the structures and contents of a home.
    •    Moisture detection equipment to take room readings of relative humidity and temperature to gauge the progress.

Our water restoration process also involves cleaning and sanitizing the restoration items that water has damaged.  Some products our SERVPRO crew uses during this process include:

    •    Sanitizers – We use them to reduce the number of microbes to acceptable levels. Sanitizers reduce microbes to the levels public health authorities consider safe.
    •    Disinfectants and germicides – These are antimicrobials that destroy about ninety-nine percent of microorganisms on surfaces where we apply them. They can either affect or not affect fungal spores, which are typically reproductive and dormant bodies.
    •    Antimicrobial agents – These are chemicals used to prevent the development of microorganisms or stop or limit their growth. Examples include mildewstats and fungistats.

We can also perform the necessary repairs based on the restoration plan we have agreed on. Restoration can involve replacing drywall, replacing the carpet, and rebuilding of rooms or affected areas. Our team has the expertise required to provide complete remodeling and reconstruction services.

Is it Necessary to Demolish Walls and Ceilings to Fix Flood Damage?
At times, controlled demolition is a necessary part of restoring a property to fix the flood damage. If some areas within a home such as ceilings, drywall, and flooring have significant damage, we can remove and replace them. We use specific demolition methods so that the structural integrity of a home is not affected. Our team establishes a dryline to ensure that we only get rid of the unsalvageable parts of the affected materials.

Flood damage is challenging to deal with. SERVPRO of Wood River Valley has the equipment, certified technicians, and experience required to restore your property to its preloss state. Call us any time at (208) 788-0183. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

How Do You Remove Soot Residues After Suffering From Fire Damage?

4/29/2020 (Permalink)

A living room with fire and soot damage. Fire damage in your Burley home? Let SERVPRO help.

SERVPRO Can Utilize Various Techniques And Chemicals To Remove Soot Residues From Your Burley Residence

When a fire burns in your house, the smoke generated can flow throughout your home and cause you several other problems than just those created by the heat and flames. Once smoke contacts the cooler surfaces inside your house, such as your walls or ceilings, it can leave behind soils and soot residues.

What Do You Need To Know To Properly Remove All Of The Soot?

When our SERVPRO technicians work towards restoring fire damage in your Burley house, we implement the following principles of cleaning:

  • Locate Smoke Residues: We inspect your entire home to figure out where the smoke went.
  • Identify The Type Of Residues: Once we know what type of fuels burned, we can figure out what kind of residues are present.
  • Identify Type Of Surface: We can use various methods based on whether the affected surfaces are porous or non-porous.
  • Capture And Remove Residues: As a part of cleaning, we can remove residues from the affected surfaces and capture them, so they do not spread to other previously unaffected areas.
  • Dispose Of Soot Residues: Once we capture and remove residues, we then dispose of them in sealed plastic bags.

How Do You Clean Hard, Non-Porous Surfaces?

Non-porous surfaces get cleaned best by using water-based detergents while keeping the following in mind:

  • Chemical Suspension: Soot can be removed from surfaces by using the like dissolves like principle. For example, oil-based cleansers work best with oily residues
  • Proper pH Of Solution: Acidic solutions work best to dissolve alkaline soils and vice versa.
  • Agitation: We often use wet rags to agitate and remove residues.

How Do You Clean Soft, Porous Surfaces?

When cleaning surfaces, we can use dry methods such as dry sponge cleaning to remove soot. Water-based methods do not work well with porous surfaces because the moisture can cause the soot to soak deeper into the material.

If you ever need professional assistance with removing soot from surfaces in your house in Mountain Home or Hailey, call SERVPRO of Wood River Valley at (208) 788-0183 24/7.

Flooding from Ice Dams in Burley

4/23/2020 (Permalink)

Icicles Hang From Ice Dam On Roof No matter how we can help you to make ice dam flooding, “Like it never even happened,” we are standing by at (208) 788-0183.

Steps to Address Flooding from Ice Dams on Burley Roofs

Ice damming can severely cripple the defenses of your Burley home’s roof by allowing a buildup of ice along the edge of the roof that continues to push back into shingles and underlayment. With melting snow happening in rapid freezing conditions, the problem can become so bad that it damages the roof without homeowners realizing it. Attics can become saturated with intruding floodwater when openings exist to your home’s interior.

Flood damage from ice dams on Burley homes is most often directly the result of inadequate insulation in the attic space against the roof. Thinner areas of insulation do not keep the heat inside your house in the cold conditions as they should, and they escape through thinner layers of insulation against the roofing materials. Warm roofs in freezing conditions are the making for damaging conditions like ice dams. Our SERVPRO professionals can help you to address these concerns in multiple ways.

Emergency Repairs
One of the priorities of the responding emergency teams is to allow our in-house residential contactors to set up temporary construction solutions. For damaged roofs, tarping can immediately eliminate further water penetration so that our mitigation technicians can work on evaporative drying solutions for saturated flooring and walls with our centrifugal air movers.

Extraction
Water removal strategies do not exclusively address surface water pooling above the top layer of flooring materials, but a more general term for reducing moisture trapped in these construction materials as well. Through many tools like our wet vacuums, wands, and drying mats for the unfinished wood flooring, we can get a better handle on flooding conditions that could continually migrate into lower levels of the house.

There are dozens of steps and phases between the first notice of loss when you reach out to our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley emergency team and the work that happens to bring your property back to preloss condition. No matter how we can help you to make ice dam flooding, “Like it never even happened,” we are standing by at (208) 788-0183.

Just How Bad is the Damage to My Home?
Understanding the severity of the situation in your home is something that often requires special tools and skilled professionals to learn. It is a rare occurrence that surface water is the only threat that our technicians must address when we arrive at your damaged home, so establishing the migration of water and how to stop this spread is vital to protecting your property and its contents from unnecessary irreparable harm.

Because water losses are such a standard callout for our response team, we have production vehicles that stay stocked with our premier mitigation equipment, but also discovery and detection tools. With these advanced machines and technologies, we can get direct information about the presence of moisture pockets within exposed materials, and the concentrations of dampness and saturation that could indicate issues in structural cavities. We have multiple detection devices to help in this regard, including:

    •    Thermal Imagery
    •    Surface Moisture Meters
    •    Probing Moisture Detection Tools
    •    Hygrometers

How Do You Remove Water Absorbed into Construction Materials?
Removing trapped moisture is a considerable feat for our responding water restoration technicians, as saturation can change the composition of flooring, drywall, and other structural elements. Without addressing the present dampness, the facilitation of mold or deterioration of the material could require its removal.

Extraction Tools
Removing any surface water and pooling is one of the first paths that our SERVPRO technicians have to reduce saturation and absorption of materials in the immediate area. We have multiple potential options to help, including our electric submersible pumps, truck-mount pumps, and industrial-grade wet vacuums.

Efficient Drying Equipment
Drying is critical to protect damaged structural elements and the environment as well. With the deployment of multiple air movers and dehumidifiers, we can manage humidity and airflow, allowing us to evaporate moisture pockets and protect materials and contents more efficiently.

Specialty Drying Units
Surfaces like hardwood flooring and tile can benefit from specialty drying equipment like our floor mat system. This approach draws continual trapped water to the desired moisture content level. Tenting these floor drying mats can maximize their efficiency and allow for more consistent monitoring of progress.

Is Controlled Demolition Always Necessary?
As a reputable restoration team, it is always our intention to reduce the need for tear-out and reconstruction whenever necessary. Because we have in-house contractors experienced in areas like controlled demolition and full-scale reconstruction, we have more versatility in the services we can offer and the effectiveness of our team as a whole.

Careful consideration gets made with almost all of the exposed, affected surfaces to determine their salvageability and what must occur to protect the property as a whole. If it costs more to dry and recover a water-damaged structural element than the material is worth, it is more efficient to discard and replace this material. These decisions often get made during the initial job scoping, but might also get made at later points if drying efforts are more involved or costlier than initially anticipated.

How Can You Be Sure the House is Restored?
Peace of mind that your home is getting sufficiently dried after a water loss incident is not complicated for our SERVPRO professionals to provide. Continued monitoring throughout the drying process and mitigation phases can showcase areas where moisture pockets might still exist, or water has migrated to since the work began. Documenting these ongoing results in exclusive software like DryBook keeps all of our water restorers on the same page about what processes need to be done and the efficiency of specific practices. We do not walk away from any job without assuring ourselves and our customers that the work is done.

Water loss incidents can be a destructive force in your home without a fast response from professionals that can dry and protect exposed materials and contents. Call our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley team today at (208) 788-0183.

Removing Commercial Mountain Home Flood Damage from a Local Bakery

While Idaho business owners may feel safer from ground or flash floods than US entrepreneurs living at or below sea level, the truth is that flooding can happen anywhere and at any time. The nearby Snake River can overflow and overwhelm nearby structures easily, even though elevation levels in Idaho are over 3,000 feet high. Many local businesses, particularly small, single-structure operations, are seldom equipped to address disasters of this scale.

If your Mountain Home commercial facilities need flood mitigation, SERVPRO can send an emergency response team to your business within hours of your call. This team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to restore your commercial space and functional, clean, and safe condition for all occupants. These mitigation pros, along with over 1,700 other franchise locations in the US and Canada, are uniquely positioned to respond as quickly as possible to disasters.

Determining Your Flood Insurance Needs Fast

  • Commercial property insurance does not come with flood coverage. However, you can consult with the National Flood Insurance Program about acquiring flood coverage for your business
  • Flood insurance covers your building and the contents needed to run your business. Property outside of your building, business vehicles, and financial losses incurred by a disaster are typically not covered.
  • You can determine flood damage risk by researching local flood maps and FEMA's national flood risk map.
  • Flood policies do cover mold damage caused by a flood, but not mold that existed before flooding. These claims are assessed on a case-by-case basis to determine appropriate compensation after filing.

SERVPRO technicians utilize extraction systems that address various depths of floodwaters, as well as auxiliary power sources for them if the power at your facility is out. Before extraction can begin, technicians carefully remove debris and solid contaminants that can affect the safety of your business. Gas-powered submersible pumps are ideal for standing water two inches or more. Squeegees, mops, and extraction wands can remove water from hard flooring surfaces like tile and polished concrete.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley can leave your business looking, "Like it never even happened." You can contact (208) 788-0183 24/7 for commercial cleanup services from an experienced emergency-response team.

Removing Water Before Subflooring Gets Saturated in Burley Homes

Hundreds of quick drying decisions must get made in every Burley home after flooding occurs. Many of these choices get made as much to protect from more significant damages as it is to address the current loss effects that already exist. For example, saturated carpeting and wood plank flooring can allow water penetration to reach the subflooring and support materials, which can be an expensive area to remove and replace.

As you might expect, the removal of flood damage from Burley homes requires an array of capable tools in the inventory of our SERVPRO team. From extractors and wet vacuums to specialty drying equipment and weighted moisture removal tools, we can get water and flood loss scenarios under control. With the floors being the most likely place for floodwater to collect during an emergency, water removal is one of the most vital focal points for responding technicians.

Removing Surface Water
Our SERVPRO professionals arrive with multiple options for extraction, including our electric submersible pumps and wet vacuums. Both of these tools are low-energy options that can remove higher volumes of standing water. Removing the water resting on the surface of your flooring is the first step in addressing the full saturation concern threatening subflooring.

Specialty Removal Tools
Whether it is wood flooring or carpets, both often require additional moisture removal tactics after removing surface water. For carpeted flooring, weighted extractors can remove moisture from the fibers and the padding underneath it. Wood plank flooring can get helped with the application of drying mats perpendicular to seams in the materials. With the right spread of these tools, it is possible to remove water without needing to utilize controlled demolition to reach the subflooring.

When in Doubt, Tear it Out
Controlled demolition is a practice that can make restoration and mitigation more efficient. There are many materials too severely saturated for drying to be cost-effective. Removing surface materials can allow our contractors and technicians to reach undamaged areas of the flooring assemblies to protect them against migrating floodwater.

There are many options for our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley restorers when we arrive at your home to remove water and restore the damage. Flooding does not have to mean total losses. Give us a call today at (208) 788-0183.

Winter Woes and Water Damage from Ice and Snow? Call SERVPRO for Help in Mountain Home!

Frosty the Snowman SERVPRO and Frosty Say--Insulate Your Pipes to Prevent Winter Freezing and Water Damage in Mountain Home

Mountain Home With Frozen Pipes Needs Water Cleanup

Water damage from pipe bursts due to frigid weather is not uncommon in Idaho. Many homes built in the last 50 years tend to have the water pipes located within the structure away from exterior walls and well-insulated from freezing.

Because winter temperatures often dip into the single digits in Mountain Home, frozen pipes and water cleanup assistance is a frequent call SERVPRO receives. Temperatures below 20 degrees Fahrenheit or lower can be the cause of any pipe burst because when water freezes, it expands and has nowhere to go within the confines of the plumbing.

Why SERVPRO?
The equipment makes the difference for lessening loss in every home disaster situation. Consumer-grade wet/dry vacs have no comparison to the portable pumps, ride-on Rover units, and truck-mounted power for expedited water removal. Equally, unmatched is the array of drying equipment that brings down the interior humidity rapidly and helps homeowners avoid secondary issues such as mold growth or foul odors.

Preventing Frozen Pipes
·      There are steps homeowners can take against freezing pipes such as:
·      Keep the heat on in the property, at least above 50 degrees Fahrenheit
·      Turn the water for both hot and cold taps on just a bit and let the water drip
·      For pipes by an outside wall within cabinets, open the cabinet doors
·      Seal gaps and cracks around pipes where the cold area can enter
·      Heating tape is a solution some homeowners use for short sections of pipe that at risk of freezing
·      Insulate pipes where the home is not heated, particularly in basements or attic spaces

Water Extraction and Drying
SERVPRO technicians arrive quickly to extract the water from the property. They can arrange for a qualified plumber to make the repairs needed to assist the home getting back to normal if the homeowner desires. The drying of the property uses air movers that blow high-velocity warm air that speeds the drying process.  Afterward, the techs wipe down surfaces affected by water loss with antimicrobial and deodorizing cleaning agents to ensure no residual water odors get left behind.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley at (208) 788-0183 handles water cleanup from frozen pipes in properties and makes the loss, "Like it never even happened."

Our Crew Can Save Your Fire Damaged Home In Burley

2/11/2020 (Permalink)

fire damaged home We can help after a fire loss, give our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley team a call at (208) 788-0183.

Structural Damages Following Burley Housefires

Not every restoration team can offer an inclusive approach to nearly all aspects of recovery that your Burley home might need after a fire loss. Structure fires can be a destructive force that can affect much more than the contents of your residence, and instead, attack supports and framework of your property. Our SERVPRO team can help with the restoration of your home after a fire loss, but also can help to offer a full team of residential contractors to help rebuild and remodel after catastrophic structural compromise.

Scoping a job is one of the methods that our professionals have of identifying significant structural ruin and other fire damage to Burley homes. Because we have a full team of licensed residential contractors to assist our team through the early mitigation stages and beyond, we do not have to be overly critical of areas that might be costlier to restore than to remove and replace. The advantage of having a reconstruction team with a restoration crew is the ability to make real-time decisions based on saving a customer money and disruptions.

Fire losses can displace the occupants of a damaged house, so our professionals can appreciate how vital efficiency is. We can work with your insurance provider to ensure that all of the approvals are gathered to begin all phases of restoration and recovery as they are necessary. Controlled demolition, for example, must happen during the debris removal and mitigation phases to prevent structural failures that could injure bystanders or working technicians.

In many situations, widespread fire loss presents a unique situation for homeowners to remodel and renovate while their property is an essential clean slate. In many structure fires, walls must get torn down to the framework, making modifications and new layouts much more cost-effective for the customer – primarily when the rebuilding costs exist either way.

Restoring your home after a fire loss incident does not always mean demolition and rebuilding, but when it does, you can take advantage of the simplicity of having both restoration and reconstruction services under the same roof. However, we can help after a fire loss, give our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley team a call at (208) 788-0183.

Flood Damage Restoration In Your Burley Residence

1/30/2020 (Permalink)

flood damaged home We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster!

Seeking Flood Damage Restoration for Your Burley Residence Can Prevent Further Losses

Floods from natural disasters, such as winter storms and hurricanes, can cause overwhelming effects to homeowners. Water from heavy rain can get into your property through a broken window or a leaking roof, and it can ruin different contents, including electrical appliances, furniture, and vital documents. If you find yourself in such a dilemma, hire a reputable restoration firm like SERVPRO to restore your property to its preloss state.

We can deal with any magnitude of flood damage in your Burley property. Our team of technicians have access to advanced equipment and use it appropriately. Calling us immediately after the flooding incident can prevent further losses.

Ways flooding can ruin your property:

Causing cracks in the foundation
During flooding, the water can saturate the soil that your house sits on, making it loose. The loose soil can cause the concrete slab to lift or crack. In severe cases, the shifting can cause cracks on exterior walls.

Ruining drywall
Drywall and water are great enemies since water weakens it and creates a conducive environment for mold growth. Floodwater can also damage insulation since the materials used to make it are porous.

Mold growth
After water dampens an area, there are high chances of mold growth occurring within 24 to 48 hours. Mold can cause health effects for the occupants.

Our SERVPRO team is skilled in flood damage restoration, which involves more than just removing the water. To restore a property safely and effectively, we also perform drying and deodorizing processes that require advanced equipment and special procedures.

Floodwater may rise to almost a few feet from the ground, especially in the basement. Since floods bring along all kinds of debris, we can use a self-priming trash pump to extract the water and waste. If these devices become clogged, accessing the pump body is easy. They are ideal for use when restorers need to transfer water horizontally or when little lift is required. Like many homeowners, you may use your basement to store items. If you have water damaged contents, we can take them to our facilities for a thorough cleaning, drying and sanitizing.

The surfaces of your home and its environment may have high humidity levels after the extraction of water. We can use several axial air movers to lower the humidity in the property. These machines speed up the evaporation process so that the affected area dries thoroughly.

The flooding incident may have affected the power supply in your area. If that is the situation, our experts can use portable generators to power our restoration equipment and light our string lights and stand lights. We come fully equipped, and no situation can hinder us from restoring your property.

When dealing with flooding, SERVPRO of Wood River Valley can assure you of an efficient, thorough, and prompt restoration process. Talk to us at (208) 788-0183 for immediate assistance. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Balancing Factors for Effective Fire Soil Cleaning in Rupert Homes

Cleaning is a critical process for every fire loss event in a Rupert residence and involves a balance of multiple factors working together towards the common goal. As challenging as the restoration of your home might be, our technicians have cleaning and recovery down to a blend of elements. Better known as TACT, cleaning and surface restoration involves a combination of temperature, agitation, chemical action, and time.

Every cleaning need following fire damage in Rupert homes involves the intricate balance of all four of these factors. Compromising in any one area requires the other areas to pick up the slack. The more that our professionals can address these concerns in real-time, the better able we are to manipulate these factors for adequate recovery.

Temperature

Now, it is well understood that heat makes molecules move faster. The quicker particles are moving, the more effective chemical processes are on damaged surfaces. Considering that every cleaning product that our SERVPRO team uses works best at specific varying temperatures, our understanding of our products can ensure the appropriate temperature conditions get reached.

Agitation

Mechanical actions taken before the application of chemicals and cleansing agents can help to remove soiling and sediment from the surfaces of affected materials. Depending on the severity of these residues, various practices can help to remove loose particulates or loosen them from their bond with the surface. Brushing, vacuuming, and compressed air are all practical approaches.

Chemical Actions

This step involves the application of chemical agents to begin removing or dissolving residues from affected surfaces. Multiple agents can adequately address threats like soot and smoke residues through neutralizing their acidity and wiping away the layer of damage.

Time

While every element in this balance is critical, time is one that can often get compromised from an effort to make the restoration as efficient as possible. Our SERVPRO team understands that a quality result after a fire loss cannot get rushed.

Cleaning up after fire loss effects can be a considerable challenge, even for our experienced SERVPRO of Wood River Valley team. Utilizing this balance of crucial factors, premier equipment, and potent cleaning agents, we can make fire disasters “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call today at (208) 788-0183.

What is the Best Way to Keep Water Damage from Affecting Your Burley Home’s Subfloor?

12/29/2019 (Permalink)

standing water on hardwood bedroom floor Wow! This is a lot of water! We were able to remove the water and restore this home.

Conducting Water Removal Services on the Subfloor of your Burley Home

Transporting large volumes of water from one area, like your home, to another is time-consuming without the correct equipment. While industrial equipment is rentable, you should only consider using it if you have prior experience as well as a working knowledge of safe usage. Dealing with large quantities of water is an urgent task. However, it is vital to conduct restoration with professional expertise and calmness. It is easy to cause more harm than good when it comes to property restoration.

There are local, professional water removal companies in Burley. We are here to help homeowners that are struggling with burst pipes, leaking ceilings, or malfunctioning heating ventilation and air-conditioning units. Our priority is always to stop the damage at the source. From there, SERVPRO can work methodically to mitigate losses and restore any infrastructure or contents. At the beginning of service, we can communicate with you and record any losses for passing onto your insurer at the end of service.

Water rarely confines itself to one area. In fact, over time, water enters other areas of the home. A large amount of standing water has a significant weight and mass. This weight means that moisture may soak into carpets, your subfloor pad, or even the subfloor itself. SERVPRO use large moisture sensors to probe beneath carpets and assess the likelihood of water damage affecting your subfloor before removing materials like subfloor and pad.

For some homeowners, it is possible to extract moisture without removing obstacles. For other homeowners, SERVPRO technicians must temporarily remove a carpet to gain access to the subfloor. Subfloors pads break apart easily when in contact with water. We can remove and replace these pads to prevent mold growth or other recurring moisture issues. By channeling hot air underneath your floor, we can effectively dry it, before replacing new subfloor mats and clean carpet on top.

Water incidents in your home are urgent, and you should seek professional help immediately. Contact SERVPRO of Wood River Valley at (208) 788-0183 now.

Debris Removal for Flooded Burley Apartment Buildings

Substantial water loss incidents can leave dust, dirt, debris, and other particulates throughout your Burley apartments. Not only is the removal of this water something that is often out of the capabilities of property owners, management groups only entrust the general upkeep and maintenance of the apartments to designated employees. Extensive restorations encompassing multiple units often falls to the experience of trusted preferred vendors like our SERVPRO team.

Burst pipes or faulty appliances are conventional catalysts to substantial loss incidents that leave you needing water cleanup for a Burley apartment building. Though you are often informed of these emergencies immediately from the residents of the building, any time where heavy flow engages sensitive materials like drywall and ceiling tiles could be enough for a destructive result. The professionals you secure to help must have extensive water restoration experience, not to mention the education to safely remove debris and repair damaged structural elements.

Through the movement and path of the water damage as it migrates through the building, it can pick up considerable dust, debris, and dirt. Rubble and deteriorated structural surfaces are also a common element to encounter in the apartments that experience the worst of the water damages, as saturated ceiling and wall materials can buckle under the weight and collapse. Our SERVPRO professionals can address these concerns by shoveling out the heaps of debris and vacuuming up other loose particulates after extraction completes.

With the area somewhat cleaned, our team can finish controlled demolition efforts on areas that have not structurally failed but are too severely damaged to remain. Flood cuts and material removal permits direct access to our centrifugal air movers and desiccant dehumidifiers. With shared wall cavities that can affect multiple properties simultaneously, thorough drying of your building can prevent lingering moisture ideal for microbial development.

Many people depend on a fast and experienced response to any emergency that threatens the apartment building where they live. As the building manager, you should seek out the expertise and the fast response of our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley team. We can help you to make these losses “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call anytime at (208) 788-0183.

A Plan for Flood Damage in Burley

11/30/2019 (Permalink)

Snowflakes with tree limbs in the back. We know first and foremost what your Burley home needs. Let SERVPRO help you get prepared for your flood damage.

Let SERVPRO get you prepared for the flood damage to your Burley home.

With massive amounts of snow hitting Burley, flood damage in the spring is a real possibility. Magic Valley residents should have a plan for when disaster hits, considering the historical instances of flooding in the spring. If you find your home with flood damage, you may be in a state of shock, not knowing what to do first. A pre-established plan helps you know what to do without having to do research. Some things you can plan to do on your own, others require professional assistance.

Before flood damage occurs in your Burley home, it is essential to understand your coverage. When purchasing your insurance, you need to understand what is covered in the case of a flood. Learning that you are under-insured at a time of crisis makes a terrible situation even worse. If you are renting and have renters insurance, be sure to read your policy thoroughly. Most renters insurance does not cover natural disasters, including flooding due to weather.

In the case of a flood, be sure to document everything. Take photos of all the damage, including structural, your belongings, and the actual flood water and remaining sludge in the home. This type of documentation helps the SERVPRO technicians when they arrive on the scene. It also assists you when you go to file a claim.

Next, plan to contact the professionals at SERVPRO. Technicians come to your home as soon as possible to mitigate secondary damage and firstly provide a scoping of the damage and a written estimate. We are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We are Faster To Any Size Disaster. Prompt attention is crucial for keeping damage to a minimum.

Lastly, understand waste removal as part of your disaster plan. SERVPRO professionals clean up and restore your home. If you have carpet, it is always discarded. The sludge remaining when the flood water recedes could contain bacteria, viruses, and other unknown dangers. Carpet can never be 100 percent cleaned after a flood. Depending on the severity of the damage, technicians may need to dispose of furniture and demolished drywall. Understand the city codes to determine whether or not technicians can leave it curbside.

Although you can never fully prepare for a disaster like flooding, it is crucial to understand what to do in the case of flood damage hitting your Burley home. Contact SERVPRO of Wood River Valley (208) 788-0183 to make it "Like it never even happened."

How SERVPRO Removes Smoke Damage in Burley Homes

11/18/2019 (Permalink)

Fire damaged garage in home When fire damages your home, call SERVPRO. We can help!

No Whiff of Bad Smell After SERVPRO Restores Fire Damage in a Burley Home

It is common for the odors associated with fire incidents to linger in a property even after restoration. Such odors can make it uncomfortable to stay in the house. Odors can also lead to respiratory issues if caused by particulate matter suspended in the air. The decision to involve SERVPRO in the restoration helped eliminate all traces of bad smell from a Burley home.

Removing Odorous Materials

The materials charred or wholly burnt in a fire damage incident in Burley continue to emit odors long after the flames go out. Our SERVPRO team, therefore, focused on removing all charred materials from contents, surfaces, and structural components such as frames to serve the duo purpose of restoring the visual appeal and removing all malodor reserves. Our FSRT, Fire, and Smoke Restoration Technicians are familiar with different cleaning methods, including sanding, abrasion, and soda-blasting, which remove all traces of charring from materials.

Odor Modification

Although odor is invisible, it is made up of molecules that evaporate into the air due to their volatile nature. Some areas of the property were still odorous even after thorough cleaning efforts. Our SERVPRO technicians are prepared to tackle such challenges through odor modification methods. In some areas, we used a ULV fogger to deliver a water-based odor counteractant to neutralize the odor. In other areas, we used thermal foggers to deliver solvent-based deodorizers vaporized to particles as small as half a micron that penetrate deep into materials. Thermal fogging delivers the deodorizer just like the smoke that causes the odor in the first place, thus allowing better interaction.

Masking Some Odor

Even after dealing with malodors caused by the combustion processes, we still had to ensure the residents would feel comfortable once they moved back into the property. Some processes, such as refinishing surfaces through painting, left some temporary odors that could diminish comfort. Many scenarios could cause fire damage to your Burley property. From faulty electrical work to food left on the stove unattended, there are many possibilities. However, some situations occur more often than others.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the most common potential causes of fire damage in your Burley home could be cooking, heating, electrical, smoking, or candles. It is always imperative to keep your eye on any space heaters, the stove, or candles.

However, what would happen if an accident occurred? Imagine that you left a candle burning in your bedroom, forgetting about it while you went to make dinner in another room. If you began to smell smoke, and then the fire detector in your hallway went off, naturally, you would rush to see what the issue is. Not all fires inside of your home end in disaster. In this case, imagine that you were able to put the fire out with an extinguisher, and only your drapes burned up.

Why Invite Mold into Your Burley Home After a Water Loss? Call SERVPRO for Full Restoration

9/27/2019 (Permalink)

Peeled Back water damaged wall paper revealing large mold stains SERVPRO Says to Call Us for Water Removal, Professional Moisture Detection in Your Burley Home to Inhibit Mold Growth

Water Removal Burley – Do It Right the First Time

Mold can begin to grow in less than 48 hours if the moisture in floors and walls remains. Some clients have tried removing water from leaks themselves. Owners in Burley may focus on the visible areas that are wet. Many miss moisture inside walls or moisture that has seeped through the floor to the ceiling of rooms below. In a few days, it can quickly become apparent that there is still moisture in the walls or ceilings, and there is an odor.

SERVPRO always focuses on water removal in Burley in those hard to get at places. Mold loves moist, dark, and warm conditions. You can find it in wall cavities, under the floors, and in ceilings from water drips. If you do not remove all of the moisture by following proper IICRC Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification techniques, there can be a mold problem in a few days.

Flood Cuts
No one wants to remove a wall, however, if moisture meters detect dampness inside the cavity of a wall, a flood cut of six inches or more may be needed. Remove the baseboards and drywall. Our technicians can remove damp insulation and aim air movers at these spaces to dry out the area. Air movers work well with dehumidifiers to remove moisture from the room.

Ceiling Tiles May Need to be Removed
Water may have seeped through the subfloor. Water may have passed into the ceiling of the room below. In situations like this, ceiling tiles are removed to access these moisture hotspots. Remove moisture from this area, and the structure, (subfloor and joists) must be dried to avoid the growth of mold.

Once the area is contaminated, the task of removing the mold can become far more invasive. Treat structural elements or remove them. Negative pressure rooms may need to be set up to blow contaminated air to the outside and to protect other rooms in the building. Our teams have the equipment to set up containment barriers and use air scrubbers to provide negative air pressure to vacate these mold particles and spores.

SERVPRO always gets it right the first time and returns your home or office to you, "Like it never even happened."

Call SERVPRO of Wood River Valley at (208) 788-0183 for 24/7 service. We proudly Mountain Home, Halley, Rupert, and surrounding areas. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Why SERVPRO is the Trusted Choice for Emergency Home Restoration Needs in Mountain Home

SERVPRO drying equipment You can trust SERVPRO of Wood River Valley handle all of your emergency restoration needs. Call 24/7 208-788-0183

Why our Restoration Service has Grown Rapidly through Mountain Home over the Last Three Years

Our restoration service starts with the simple principle of providing the best equipment, training, and personnel to any given restoration project for Mountain Home residents. Over the last three years, our company has grown its reputation and widened its reach in this community, first in Twin Falls, and now, the wider wood river valley region. At the core of this expansion is the same expertise and equipment, with the addition of working experience in restoration of mold, water, fire, or storm property damages. We source technicians from the local area with qualifications from a nationally recognized awarding body, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC.)

Water Damage Restoration

A water loss scenario can cause extensive harm to the interior of your property. In some situations, these damages are immediately apparent. Other times, you may find water damage in your Mountain Home property has resided in areas invisible to the naked eye. This second category should be dealt with by a professional with the ability to measure moisture content levels and predict outcomes. Inexperienced water restoration can cause permanent losses, particularly in homes with wooden floors that may cup, buckle, or warp without the correct drying procedure in place.

SERVPRO technicians provide water restoration services to Mountain Home residents that both mitigate losses as well as guarding your home against future damages. Often, water-related incidents can be the result of condensation occurring in poorly insulated areas of the home or areas without the necessary vapor barrier, like crawlspaces. These can cause permanent issues with insulation or sheetrock in your property that may have to be discarded and replaced to prevent them, causing further harm.

SERVPRO can temporarily remove infrastructure to gain access to problem areas in the home. We conduct thorough inspections using moisture sensors, meters, and thermal imaging cameras to trace moisture through the home, eliminating the need to remove infrastructure unnecessarily. When we do need to take care of drywall or sheetrock, SERVPRO can conduct a controlled demolition as part of our restoration services. We then thoroughly clean and dry the affected area before replacing the contaminated infrastructure with new material.

Fire Damage Restoration

Fire restoration can be challenging to carry out by yourself.  Whether fire damage in your Mountain Home property is extensive or includes difficult to remove soots and smoke residues, professionals can help save expense by avoiding replacements and secondary damages. SERVPRO provides certified Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration Technicians (FSRT) to carry out the finer details of your property restoration and direct the cleanup effort. You can contact us twenty-four hours a day on our emergency line to arrange a visit.

Fire staining, caused by carcinogens in smoke, is tough to remove. However, there are several practical approaches a homeowner can carry out without risking too much harm to their personal property. Running a vacuum cleaner through the property can be beneficial in removing dry soots from surfaces, as well as carpets. You may also lay down a protective tarpaulin or other material to prevent soots from falling from the upper levels and damaging carpets.

As a professional restoration service provider, we recommend you leave walls and ceilings to a certified technician. These areas can often build up thick odorous deposits which, depending on the materials that combusted, can respond poorly to standard cleaning methods. Synthetic materials, for example, produce a wet smoke which responds negatively to water and can be spread around resulting in further damage. SERVPRO can conduct a pre-test of materials, soots, and smoke residues to ensure we use the right cleaning agents and equipment, on the right areas.

Mold Remediation

Microbial growth issues are common in private residences that subjected to a wet, cold climate for long periods of the year. These microscopic fungi find ideal living conditions in heated homes where a plentiful food supply of natural, porous materials like woods or drywall are present. Generally speaking, mold damage in your Mountain Home property begins with a wet or damp spot. The moisture in these areas then provides the catalyst for mold spores to settle and proliferate with the effect of infesting materials that come into direct contact with mold.

SERVPRO offers residents of Mountain Home expertise in the area of mold remediation. We can also conduct a thorough inspection of the affected area to ensure that we comprehensively deal with the mold issue at the time of service. Failure to address the source of the issue, which may be residing behind drywall, underneath fittings like baths or showers, or a slow leak in your internal plumbing structure can make remediation efforts ineffective as mold colonies reappear.

We provide a tried and tested plan for the thorough remediation of a mold incident. Our remediation efforts incorporate the removal, disposal, and replacement of infested materials to ensure that mold does not return shortly after service. We are also capable of containing the affected area while work is carried out to prevent spores spreading. It is not uncommon during the demolition of infested drywall or other materials for SERVPRO to deploy air filtration units alongside negative air pressure to prevent the unwanted spread of mold.

Storm Damage Restoration

Although we consider our homes to be resilient and secure, they are not often built to withstand avalanches, high winds, or flash flooding. Violent weather events put your homes weakest infrastructure under extreme pressure. Doors, windows or roofing structure can be busted open by severe weather, allowing gallon upon gallon of water to come rushing into the home. Once your safety is secure, you should reach out to your storm insurance adjuster immediately as well as arrange for a professional restoration service.

In most property damage scenarios, a homeowner can carry out some critical mitigation work themselves. However, storm damage in your Mountain Home property can present a genuine health risk. Floodwaters are considered to be an infectious waste because they can travel several miles before entering your home, picking up all kinds of pathogens along the way. These could include raw sewage and animal carcasses as well as herbicides, pesticides, and viruses. For that reason, you should seek a professional with the correct personal protective equipment to inspect the safety of the property before anybody else enters.

Storm events cause significant losses with insurance payouts reaching $10bn annually in the US since 2008. SERVPRO is here to help reduce those claim costs by conducting emergency procedures which can prevent severe losses. Our duties include thoroughly draining and drying the property as well as fitting tarps over affected areas in your roofing structure and securing doorways. These small tasks can prevent the weakening of floors through waterlogging and stop your Mountain Home property from sustaining more significant damages and requiring extensive restoration services.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley has a stellar reputation for the restoration of property after water, fire, mold and storm damage. Contact us for immediate assistance using our call line at (208) 788-0183.

The Technology SERVPRO Uses for Water Removal from Burley Grocery Stores

Over decades of service to business owners across the country, SERVPRO has developed a water removal strategy that maximizes the speed of our services. Efficient water removal work helps to prevent expensive long-term damages (such as mold growth or foundational damage) from happening and reduces the time we need to spend restoring your business to the way it was before the incident. We use state-of-the-art technology for these situations, with large machinery and highly effective tools that allow us to combat water damages in industrial spaces and large commercial establishments. Here are a few of the ways that our technology helps us to remove water from your building.

Industrial-Strength Extraction Pumps

While lightweight, portable water pumps may be sufficient for small-scale water removal projects in Burley, many of the disasters we deal with locally require us to bring out our high-powered industrial water extraction devices. These truck-mounted pumps can rapidly remove standing water from large commercial floor spaces in even the worst situations. Rarely, when disastrous flooding happens to exceptionally large buildings, we may even bring in additional pumps to make sure that all water extraction occurs in a timely fashion.

Strategic Drying Tool Placement

We rely on air movers, powerful fans that create directed air currents, to handle any drying that gets done after we extract standing water from the building. In a grocery store, these air movers are often positioned along aisles and alongside damaged walls to pick up more moisture from the area. Once we have water airborne inside the building, we can then collect and remove it with our thermal dehumidifying devices.

Moisture Detection Technology

Some of our most recent technological advances have been related to our moisture detection equipment. Handheld electronic devices like thermohygrometers and infrared detection tools help us to identify pockets of water and moisture inside your building even in areas where no signs of damage may otherwise be present. Thanks to these tools, we are more effective than ever at finding and eliminating potential sources of additional damage before they can cause further problems for your business.

Long-Term Solutions To Prevent A Burley House Flooding Again

Flooding in your Burley home can be an overwhelming and high-stress situation for all involved. For all of the recovery efforts that make up a successful restoration, a return to the preloss condition often comes at a high cost, especially when many homeowner insurance plans do not always cover the effects of flooding. Combating this situation once can be costly enough to homeowners, leaving them looking for the best solutions to prevent recurrences in the years to come.

With a team of qualified technicians accredited through the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), we have real-time solutions for flood damage in Burley homes as it occurs. In addition to the work that we can do to save you money when emergencies have already occurred, we can also help you with long-term solutions to reduce your risks of contending with the same flood damages again.

Part of our success in this precautionary arena stems from our full-service contracting division that can get dispatched from our facility along with our mitigation team. While these professionals are invaluable with controlled demolition, build back, and repairs after flood damages, they can also work to assess persistent risks and the best modifications to protect your home. These professionals are fully licensed through the state of Idaho to offer comprehensive support from the emergency board up services through complete remodeling.

Especially in underground levels like basements and cellars, the ability to prevent moisture penetration can inevitably lead to a vulnerability to flooding. Fortunately, once the area has gotten dried up and returned to normal, our team can assess better methods of keeping water out of your basement. Some of these options might include:

    •    The installation of a sump pump which can move water away from the home, its foundation walls, and flooring.
    •    Regrading or trenching the concrete flooring to better move water to installed drainage systems.
    •    Application of hydraulic cement and waterproofing materials to the inside of your exposed foundation to reduce water and moisture penetration.

Knowing how to prevent flooding is as essential as having the ideal team to clean it up when you experience it initially. Our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley team offers a full-service approach that can help you overcome flooding effects and offer long-term solutions to prevent the same level of threat moving forward. Give us a call anytime you need us at (208) 788-0183.

How To Make Water Damage Remediation In Burley a Breeze with SERVPRO

8/19/2019 (Permalink)

Water damage can cause so many other structural issues to occur in your home. Call SERVPRO today for remediation assistance.

Quick, Professional Water Removal For Burley Homes

The Snake River cresting and flooding Burley might sound like a disaster movie come to life, but most water intrusions come failed plumbing or a broken appliance. If it goes unnoticed long enough though, a split hose on a washing machine can spill hundreds of gallons on the floor or across walls and property, causing just as much damage.

That is why water removal from Burley homes requires a quick, professional response. At SERVPRO, our trained response teams use the latest equipment to clear each home of unwanted and damaging water as fast as possible without causing any further issues.

If there is standing water about ankle high or higher, team members start with an industrial-grade pump from our equipment inventory. The size used depends on the floor area of the home and how much water is present. For example, an inch or two of water spread across the laundry room, kitchen and living room requires a smaller pump than the one needed for a basement that flooded over an entire weekend or longer when the family is on vacation.

After removing this largest amount of the water in the home, SERVPRO technicians switch to smaller devices called extractors to pull water out of carpets and floors. They can adjust the vacuum speed to ensure a quick effort without accidentally separating the carpet layers, lifting linoleum off kitchen floors, or splintering and cracking wood floors.

Once they complete the extraction process, team members look for water trapped behind walls, or in the sub-floor of the home. In addition to a visual inspection, technicians also use a special meter to determine if the humidity levels are too high.

To remove water, team members carefully lift a floorboard or drill a hole into a wall behind the baseboard and insert a hose attached to a small extractor which quickly draws off the puddle or other standing water. For high humidity that can still rot wood or drywall, they use an air mover. This device forces warm air into the affected space, pushing out the damp air, so it evaporates naturally.

At SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, our teams proudly support our community, as well as Mountain Home, Hailey, and Rupert, among others in the surrounding area. If you are dealing with the effects of water in your home, regardless of the source, contact our office today at (208) 788-0183 to schedule an inspection and service call. Let us help return your home to its original, normal condition.

How Does SERVPRO Handle Fire Damage in Burley Kitchens?

8/8/2019 (Permalink)

With SERVPRO at the starting line with your fire in Burley, there is no way not to win.

Our team of technicians can provide you with a full break down on fire damage in Burley.

Among the various ways fire damage hits a residence, one of the most common and pungent is a protein fire. Frequently seen sources are a roast or turkey that catches on fire in the oven. When the oven is opened the oxygen rush fuels the fire even bigger, another common way this type of blaze occurs is from a pan with oil in it catching aflame and coming into contact with water which causes a chain reaction that makes the fire even more massive.

The misleading aspect of protein fire damage in a Burley home is that the residue left behind is difficult to see, but the odor is highly discernible which makes this type of fire loss a challenge to mitigate. Other aspects of the protein fire include:

  • The entire fire loss area requires manual cleaning as wherever the residue lands, odor grows
  • The high heat of the burn drives the scent into the structure and furnishings due to the nature of hot air to expand
  • The protein residue may be in the paint on walls and ceilings, and it may require repainting or application of a sealant

When SERVPRO technicians handle this type of fire loss, we examine every item in the burn area to ensure we clean away the deposits. Special attention is paid to possessions with fabric as part of their design, such as upholstered chairs and window treatments. We have various methods, depending on the colorfastness of the material, to clean and deodorize furnishings, including pillows and curtains.

Odor control methods in the room as applied by our technicians range from thermal fogging which works exceptionally well for eradicating odors in porous items to equipment such as hydroxyl generators which safely neutralizes airborne particles.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley stands ready to help local residents with restoration services and recovery from fire damage. Call us 24/7 at (208) 788-0183 and our emergency response team arrives within one hour after your call to make the fire loss in your home "Like it never even happened."

Your Best Option For Your Flood Damaged Home In Burley Is Our Experts

7/17/2019 (Permalink)

Call (208) 788-0183 for help when the contaminated waters invade.

Why SERVPRO Professionals Are The Premier Choice For Burley Flood Damage

High snowpack levels and accelerated melting puts Burley in the path of potentially historical flooding events. It is perhaps most evident whether flood mitigation and remediation accomplished its goals after the floodwaters recede and summer establishes the dry, hot conditions southern Idaho expects. Months after the flood loss homeowners want no reminders of the crisis, but that hope fails if appropriate recovery work was not done.

In our location on the Snake River, Burley residents suffer flood damage when snowmelt swells the river. If flooding invades your home, it is critical that experts evaluate the scenario and plan for appropriate removal and complete structural drying. Our educated managers and technicians use the best practices to get the water out.

Overland flooding exposes your home to significant levels of contaminants. Silt, chemicals, and organic waste from overwhelmed sewer systems can fill the lower levels of your dwelling. We are well-versed in local regulations concerning the containment and disposal of hazardous fluids, why SERVPRO is the number to call. Once the water exits, we use EPA-registered cleaning agents and disinfectants to ensure your space is safe for you and your family.

Our technicians are skilled in strategies like thermal imaging and moisture metering to locate any hidden water. Skipping this step increases the risk that progressive deterioration of building materials and secondary water damage continues unseen. Weeks to months after you thought the flood effects were eliminated collapse of structural components or a significant mold infestation come to light. Our thoroughness is why SERVPRO never disappoints.

Rest assured that if SERVPRO was your remediation company removal of floodwater was completed professionally. Furthermore, our IICRC-trained employees planned and implemented Applied Structural Drying (ASD) procedures that moved any absorbed flood water out of structures and into the air as a vapor, then collected by dehumidifiers and discarded.

We also evaluate any lingering odors related to the flooding and use a multistep procedure to eliminate the noxious smells, not just mask them. SERVPRO invests in innovative equipment like thermal foggers and hydroxyl generators to neutralize odor-bearing particles through chemical processes that change their molecular structure.

Reliability and results are why SERVPRO of Wood River Valley should be your provider for comprehensive and effective flood damage remediation. Call (208) 788-0183 for help when the contaminated waters invade.

Let Our Crew Help When A Flood Causes Damage To Your Burley Home

We are proud to offer quality cleaning and restoration services to every member of our surrounding communities.

Dealing With Flood Damage In Burley

After having a flood in your Burley area home, it becomes essential to dry your structure and contents quickly. The longer you allow water to dwell on your property, the more of a chance it has to cause significant damage to your home. Act fast, contact a qualified restoration specialist to plan the best course of action for your particular situation.

The company you choose to perform the flood damage restoration on your Burley area property should give you access to technicians who have obtained the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). You also gain access to advanced extraction and drying equipment as well as a variety of resources necessary to get your flood restoration job done right.

At SERVPRO, we have experienced water damage restoration technicians (WRT) who understand the four factors of drying. We put years of experience and training into limiting the time it takes to extract and dry moisture found in your home after a flood. It is our job to make sure that you receive the best possible results and get things in your home back to normal, fast.

SERVPRO technicians control your homes environment, using temperature, humidity, and air movement to return moisture levels to normal. Remember, wet goes to dry, which means that water moves from wet materials to dry materials or wet air to dryer air.

With this rule in mind, SERVPRO technicians use extractors, air movers, air scrubbers, dehumidifiers, and moisture detectors to determine which drying methods perform the best in your home. Since it is easier to remove a liquid than it is to remove gas, we start with water extraction equipment to remove as much water from your home as possible.

Floods can drastically affect the insulation in your walls, reducing its insulating power. Many types of insulation mat once wet and require replacement to maintain a quality living environment for you and your family. Air movers make it possible for technicians to dry wall-cavities without doing too much damage, the same goes for water under your kitchen cabinets, and other hard to reach areas of your home.

Foul Odors after a House Fire in Mountain Home? Call SERVPRO for a Breath of Fresh Air!!

Odors Linger in Your Mountain Home House after a Fire

After the fire department extinguishes a fire on your Mountain Home property, you might think that it is time to breathe a sigh of relief. Unfortunately, fires can cause long term damages, some of which are invisible to the eye, but not your nose. You may begin noticing odd odors, indicating that odor particles from soot have penetrated deep inside your home.

The residual odors that linger in a fire damaged Mountain Home can be very challenging to remove. Eliminating the smell can be difficult without proper equipment, so it is best to leave the job to professionals capable of pinpointing and neutralizing the sources of the odors. When SERVPRO technicians arrive on your property, we can assess the extent of the fire damage and any odors.

We can haul fire debris and damaged materials from your home to eliminate sources of fire odors. Additionally, we can wipe down and scrub surfaces covered in smoke residues with the use of cleaning agents and special wet and dry sponges. Once we have removed the major sources of the smell, we can begin the deodorization process.

Our crews can walk through your house and recreate the path of soot particles to pinpoint sources of the odor better. We can then use deodorizers to neutralize hidden odor particles that may be lurking in hard to reach places. Furthermore, we can deploy a hydroxyl generator to filter out the air in your home. Hydroxyl generators can filter out soot, smoke, mold, and dust from the atmosphere inside your home with the use of a HEPA filter, drastically cutting odor levels.

If you are frustrated about a lingering smell after a fire in your home, then call SERVPRO of Wood River Valley. We have qualified technicians available 24/7 at (208) 788-0183, so give us a call if you need odor mitigation.

Home in the Mountains!

Monitoring Water Removal from Mountain Home Hardwood Floors

6/16/2019 (Permalink)

Don't let your floors put you out.

Let SERVPRO help you get your hardwood floors back to normal.

As much as many Mountain Home residents might assume that drying after a water loss incident needs to be excessive and absolute, this is rarely the case. In most situations, affected materials and areas of your property must get evaluated by our professionals to determine the extent of damage they face and what actions specifically restore them entirely. With this information, we can begin vital mitigation services to protect saturated structural elements like hardwood flooring common to properties in the region.

Restoring water damage in your Mountain Home to the hardwood installed in your residence is an intricate process that requires not only the specialized equipment of our team but also the experience of our professionals as well. We have a full roster of Water Restoration Technicians and Applied Structural Drying Technicians accredited through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC.) This training in this niche of the industry helps us to develop an effective plan to ensure that every damaged property receives the appropriate extraction and drying they require in a timely and efficient manner.

Flooring can often take the worst of water damage as it spreads throughout your home. Its positioning allows pooling water to collect on top, penetrating plank seams and joints, and also saturating into the individual flooring planks as well. Within days after a loss incident, even with surface water removed and presumably dried by a homeowner, this damage can persist out of sight and cause bloating and distortion of the floor that becomes impossible to restore without reconstruction.

However, we cannot leave our drying equipment in damaged areas of your house unattended for days on end, either. Hardwood requires a specific moisture content level to maintain its shape, function, and appearance. When our professionals utilize our Injecti-Dry system to begin removing moisture from the subflooring and wood planks, we must continually monitor the moisture levels to know when enough drying has taken place.

Water loss incidents can affect many areas of your home, but to protect your hardwood and to save yourself time and money, trust our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley water restoration technicians. We have the skills and equipment to make water loss damages “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call at (208) 788-0183.

We Can Restore Damaged Exhibits And Artifacts In Your Burley Museum After A Flood

5/20/2019 (Permalink)

You can always count on our experts to offer effective solutions with advanced equipment to make flood effects “Like it never even happened.”

Protecting Exhibits And Artifacts In Your Burley Museum

Historical and cultural centers are more common to Burley, and the entirety of the Wood River Valley, than many residents might believe. Entire counties devote buildings to the displays of the rich cultural influences and history, but much like a museum anywhere, disasters prove to be a constant and total threat to these facilities. Especially with scenarios like flooding, exhibits and artifacts become immediately at risk of irreparable damage from oversaturation, moisture damage, and other effects that could result from this situation.

Our SERVPRO professionals understand how vital the recovery of flood damage is for your Burley museum, so we work to respond quickly to these situations with the equipment and experienced personnel to help. We have water restoration specialists with accreditations from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), giving these professionals extensive training with structural drying and content recovery as well as mitigation solutions that the museum’s structural elements require.

With artifacts or exhibits directly affected by floodwater, it is important for our SERVPRO team to remove these items from the premises as promptly as possible. These contents get safely moved to our nearby facility for focused drying, cleaning, and recovery efforts. For documents, we have freeze-drying solutions that can help to prevent the loss of these often one-of-a-kind parchments and decrees.

We realize that excessive moisture and dampness can often be as detrimental to these relics and recovered items from the past. Our professionals can address these concerns with moisture reduction equipment like our Low Grain Refrigerant (LGR) dehumidifiers and our high-velocity air movers. These machines can work together to force-dry moisture and saturation from the affected areas of the museum.

With many of the historical items, documents, and county and state history on display, flood recovery and restoration must begin immediately when disasters strike. You can always count on our experts at SERVPRO of Wood River Valley to offer effective solutions with advanced equipment to make flood effects “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call anytime you need us at (208) 788-0183.

Wondering How to Handle Flood Damage Remediation in Your Mountain Home Property?

Flood damage in your Mountain Home property can turn your life upside down. Contact SERVPRO today for help.

Threats of Flash Flooding in Mountain Home Properties

Flash flooding is not a situation that affects every Mountain Home property owner. In lower lying areas and those downhill from problematic zones that can accumulate devastating flood water, homes can quickly find themselves in the destructive path of this natural disaster. As formidable of a force as this can be for properties throughout our region, recovering from this disaster requires the expertise and experience of our IICRC-Certified Water Restoration Technicians and recovery specialists. Our 24/7 response to storm damages and flood emergencies can make the difference in protecting or restoring areas of your home that might otherwise become a total loss.

While the early warning system for flash flood damage has significantly improved for Mountain Home residences, it is often still not extensive enough to allow homeowners to remove valuable belongings and keepsakes. Our SERVPRO contents department can play a significant role in quickly removing at-risk possessions from the property and storing them in our climate-controlled warehouse until they can get returned to the house after restoration phases.

The professionals that get dispatched from our facility to your flood-damaged address can quickly identify the type of floodwater affecting your property. In most flash flooding instances, it is a belief that water could be contaminated or carry bacteria and other hazards. To combat this possibility, it is a common practice for restoration professionals like ours to remove exposed and saturated construction materials and contents entirely to prevent further damages and hazards to our team or your family.

Disinfection is a vital component to preserving structural elements and other materials within the home that cannot get removed. Our SERVPRO technicians can apply a variety of cleaning and disinfection agents approved for use by OSHA, which can thoroughly remove the threat of contamination and bacteria.

Flash flooding can strike with little warning and devastate homes throughout our area. Whenever disaster strikes, you can count on our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley rapid response team to make it “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call today at (208) 788-0183.

How to Take the Headache Out of Water Damage Remediation in Mountain Home

4/30/2019 (Permalink)

Don't try and tackle water damage alone. Contact SERVPRO today for help.

SERVPRO - Eliminating Water Damage in Mountain Home Neighborhoods

With its location along I-84 and near both the Air Base and Snake River, Mountain Home is a great community to work, live, and play. It does not stop the usual incidents like broken pipes or a split washing machine line from dropping water in our homes, but they seem far less important than in other towns.

When water damage happens in Mountain Home neighborhoods, SERVPRO specialists look for specific issues that can cause long-term problems for each home. These conditions can lead to more problems than just a soggy carpet.

Removing water from a wood floor can be quick, but there is the possibility water got into the sub-floor. To remove this threat, we have to either lift a floorboard or drill a hole underneath floor trim that we can use to hide the appearance later. If the amount of water is minimal, then using a pump is ineffective. Our technicians attach a hose to an air mover to force warm air into the cavity and speed up evaporation.

Water can also penetrate the walls of a home. If the damaged pipe or appliance spread water for most of a day, there can be a fairly large amount that works its way into the wall cavity where it can grow mold and bacteria. To eliminate this threat to the home and residents, SERVPRO team members remove the floor trim and drill holes near the floor to allow water to escape. After water stops seeping out, they use the same hoses and air movers to dry the cavity, preventing mold growth and the risk of rot to the wall framing behind the wood panels or other building material.

After removing the water, technicians examine carpets for delamination (separation of the upper and lower layers) and mold growth. If the separation is only a series of small spots, then the carpet may be salvageable unless an insurance adjuster directs removal. For any signs of mold growth, we recommend only disposal since we cannot provide a 100% guarantee that cleaning can remove all of the active mold spores.

For SERVPRO of Wood River Valley, our goal is to return each home to a dry, safe condition quickly. If your home has had water spill across its floors, walls, or even the ceiling from a leak in the attic, call us at (208) 788-0183 to schedule a visit with one of our inspectors to determine what we can do for you.

SERVPRO techs need to get rid of any standing water from your home first. If it is more than a few inches deep, we have truck-mounted pumps that we can use to do this task quickly. Industrial fans and dehumidifiers then help us dry the affected area out again. Depending on how saturated the area is, it can take several days, but we monitor the equipment daily. When needed they are rotated to ensure we get the fastest drying time possible.

With a bit of preventative maintenance, you may be able to avoid the water damage emergency altogether. Periodically check the clamps, connections, and hoses to make sure they are in good shape and are secure. Keep an eye on the dishwasher tub for any corrosion or cracks. You should also replace rubber door gaskets when they first start to show signs of wear. Shims can help to readjust the dishwasher if it becomes unlevel over time, and keeping the kitchen drains free of clogs helps your dishwasher perform at its best.

Preventing Fire Damage In Your Burley Garage Or Workshop

Fires in home workshops and garages in Burley are a serious matter. Both usually contain various flammable materials, such as greasy rags, sawdust, paint thinner, gasoline, and wood. Many times, workshops and garages also contain a heat source like a furnace or water heater which can help ignite a fire. The best thing you can do is to keep these areas of your home as fireproof as possible.

When a garage or workshop fire has broken out, you need assistance cleaning up the fire damage in your Burley property. SERVPRO has professionally trained staff who can come in quickly to assess the damages, clean up the mess, and restore your structure so you won’t be able to tell the disaster even happened.

Practicing safe habits in your workspace area is essential. When you sand, or cut wood, sawdust, and wood chips are created. These tiny pieces are a lot more combustible than larger boards of wood. Always sweep them up to eliminate a significant fire hazard. Oily rags should also be disposed of properly, as they can spontaneously combust. Placing them in a steel bucket with a lid that self-closes is a safe choice, or you can hang the rags in a single layer to dry on a line. Always keep them away from fire and heat sources.

Before SERVPRO techs begin cleaning your structure, we test the area to determine the appropriate cleaning method. We need to use the one that effectively removes the residues from the material or surface that was damaged by doing more damage to the material or surface. Some materials are washable, which means they can be wet cleaned applying a water-based cleaning product that won’t damage the material. Non-washable materials cannot be wet cleaned, as it could damage them, so instead, we use a dry cleaning method.

You also need to keep combustible items away from regular sources of heat like boilers, space heaters, furnaces, and water heaters. Keep flammable products like spray paint, wood finishes and paint thinner in a dedicated storage container with a door that closes. Lastly, keep a fire extinguisher in the area, and make sure you have smoke alarms installed. You may even want to install a sprinkler system.

SERVPRO of Wood River Valley is skilled and cleaning and restore your home in Ketchum, Sun Valley, or Hailey after a fire. Just give us a call at (208) 788-0183 as soon as the fire is out so we can help you erase the effects of the fire to your home.

Water Removal in Burley Homes Gets Done Faster with SERVPRO's Help

Tub Overflow Can Damage Both Floors of Your Burley Home

Human error can attribute to many of the damages that your home could sustain throughout its lifetime. Something as basic as overfilling a bathtub on the second floor of your home could allow for widespread water damages to occur not only in that upper bathroom but to the first floor of your home and surrounding areas upstairs. Finding the right professional cleanup is critical in these situations, as often conventional drying methods can prove ineffective to substantial water loss incidents.

As potentially damaging as this situation can be for your Burley residence, acquiring the right water removal and restoration technicians quickly can help to preserve and protect exposed structural elements as well as damaged contents of your home. Our SERVPRO professionals can help with everything from water extraction from the tile and carpeted areas of your bathroom and adjoining rooms and hallways to drying out affected spaces of your home with our advanced equipment.

Extraction is vital to begin immediately after a water loss incident, as exposed materials begin to absorb spreading water right away. The longer that these elements remain saturated, the less likely they become of getting restored instead of removal and replacement. Additionally, the faster that our recovery team can arrive at your home, the faster that your house can get restored fully. Moreover, We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Tilework in your bathroom was designed to resist water penetration, but the grout joints are more susceptible to direct impact from pooling water. While the tiles themselves might not become saturated, water can penetrate beneath them to affect the subflooring and even the ceiling of the floor below. We can work in the bathroom area with drying mats, as well as use our injecti-dry system on the floor below to affect the heavy saturation that this space between levels of your house has experienced. This system can also be deployed to dry the wall cavities behind the sink cabinet.

Human errors can create many damaging situations for your property, but our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley rapid response team can help. Give us a call anytime at (208) 788-0183.

Our Specialists Explain The Timeline For Water Damaged Drywall In Your Burley Home

2/21/2019 (Permalink)

Give us a call at (208) 788-0183.

Water Damage Timeline For Exposed Drywall In Burley Homes

When it comes to disasters that can threaten your Burley home, many of these situations result in a finite timeline between the preservation of damaged areas in the house and the need for costly demolition and reconstruction. Water loss incidents are a great example of this, as construction materials exposed to spreading water damage can often get preserved and restored when experienced and trained technicians can get to the problem areas quickly enough.

With a damage timeline well established to begin water cleanup in your Burley home, failing to reach these deadlines can result in widespread structural concerns and a need for reconstruction. Drywall is often one of the materials to get exposed to spreading water damage, and also has a unique property to wick up moisture around it to saturate it even worse. From the point of exposure, drywall can swell and become unsalvageable in as little as one full day. Reaching out to professionals like our SERVPRO team can help to protect damaged areas like this when possible.

Our team offers a fast response to emergencies to help save our customers money. Experienced technicians remain available 24/7 to offer effective and immediate mitigation strategies such as drying and extraction efforts to help protect exposed materials like the drywall in your home. We have tools that can help to determine moisture pockets and direct our technicians on site where to best place our drying equipment to maximize results as quickly as possible.

Another way that our SERVPRO professionals work to preserve drywall when possible is to eliminate moisture in wall cavities. This solution involves either flood cuts in the drywall to remove areas too saturated to save and drying efforts with our air movers, or the use of our injectidry system which feeds hoses in through drilled holes behind the baseboard of affected walls.

Drywall is a common structural element for your home and one that can quickly become damaged under the right conditions. Let our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley rapid response team help you to clean up the mess and dry up these damaged elements quickly. Give us a call at (208) 788-0183.

Don't Hesitate When Your Office Building In Burley Experiences A Water Damage Disaster!

You can reach us anytime that you need us!

Water Cleanup From Short Pile Carpets In Burley Office Buildings

Your Burley office building requires upkeep and maintenance to stay operating at its optimal levels. While cleaning and maintenance become routine, disasters can occur that threaten the investment that you have made aesthetically in the office, not to mention preventing your employees from returning to the facility until the damage has gotten restored. Your carpeting throughout the building can often absorb the worst of water damage, and it requires our advanced equipment and expertise to prevent large scale tear out and replacement.

While sometimes water cleanup for your Burley office is little more than using a mop and bucket, many situations require more advanced equipment and approaches than this conventional cleaning method. Our SERVPRO technicians can arrive quickly to an emergency in your building, offering the full measure of our resources in the Green Fleet of service vehicles for extractions and drying to protect and preserve affected materials.

Removing the saturation from the short pile carpets requires several tools in the arsenal of our SERVPRO professionals. From weighted extractors which force water from the subflooring to the surface and our air movers and dehumidifiers which work to remove moisture from the environment, we can make water damage “Like it never even happened.”

Carpeting is already a magnet for dust, debris, and sediment. These particulates collect around the base of the fibers in the carpet, forming a mat of dirt along the base of your short pile. Cleaning these materials regularly can help to protect them throughout their life and even extend the life of the carpeting in your facility beyond its expectations. Our premier steam cleaning and dry-cleaning services can also bolster the aesthetic appeal of your office building for customers and employees.

Protecting your investments in the construction materials of your office building demands a fast response to water damage emergencies. Give our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley restoration technicians the opportunity to show you how our training and advanced equipment can make a positive difference in your building. How Snow Damaged Roofs Cause Flooding in Burley

1/28/2019 (Permalink)

Heavy snowfall can damage roofs, which can lead to water damage in your home.

Heavy Snowfall Can Allow Flooding Through Burley Roofs

During the winter months, Burley residents prepare for significant snowfall every year. While many of the homes and properties can manage these weather systems throughout one season to the next, aging roofs can begin to show wear and tear from supporting the massive weight of several inches of snowfall on a regular basis. The trouble is that many homeowners do not know about vulnerabilities in their roof until it collapses or fails in some way, allowing flooding to occur through the attic space and into the floors below.

Once your roof has allowed flood damage to occur to your Burley home, you want to react quickly to get the right personnel there to help. Our SERVPRO professionals are available any time of the day to help customers through traumatic situations like this with effective mitigation strategies and emergency board up services that can help to prevent further water penetration into the home until it can get appropriately and sufficiently reconstructed.

As is the case with any flooding situation, extraction has to take priority along with other mitigation strategies our team utilizes. We can arrive with our Green Fleet, which features a sizable truck-mounted pump capable of extracting water from affected areas at a rate of 300 psi. Once extraction wands have taken care of the rest, our SERVPRO team can focus on drying efforts to protect damaged elements of the home from structural failure and collapse.

Meanwhile, other technicians that have arrived with our rapid response team catalog damage to items and contents throughout your home, tagging them for removal off-site. We can carefully remove these belongings from the property and store them in a nearby facility of ours for focused cleaning, drying, disinfection, and deodorizing efforts. Once restoration completes within the home, we can return these items to their original places.

While snowfall occurs every year, knowing the stability of your roof and its ability to weather the weight can be critical to preventing flooding. Give our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley rapid response team a call at the first sign of flood damage at (208) 788-0183.

Fire Damage Cleanup For SERVPRO is As Easy as 1,2,3!

1/23/2019 (Permalink)

When your residential fire damage is severe, there's only one company to call to restore the damage - SERVPRO of Wood River Valley!

SERVPRO - Cleaning And Restoring Burley Homes After Fire Damage

Burley residents have a rich history tied to the Westward Expansion. That does not prevent fires and other disasters from striking area houses, apartments, and condos, however.

Burley residents with fire damage need an experienced, trained, and well-equipped service to return their home to its pre-fire condition. SERVPRO restoration teams train to meet industry standards for removal, cleaning, restoring, and repairing both personal and structural property.

The physical damage from heat and flames is, fortunately, often limited to only one or two rooms. Affected personal property usually requires disposal either directly from the damage, or because it is more cost-effective to replace the item rather than expend the labor and materials to attempt a repair.

For structural property damage, SERVPRO team efforts depend on the material. Wall paneling, ceiling tiles, and floor or ceiling trim burn or warp quickly. Sturdier material like wall framing and other, wood supports resist open flames better, so our technicians can often sand down the affected surfaces to forego replacement.

What pervades the structure and can affect every exposed item are the residues left behind by smoke and soot. For many residential fires, cleaning up and restoring property is the major cost in labor, cleaning agents, and equipment.

If the fire burned quickly and was very hot, most of the residues left are powdery and easier for our technicians to clean using sponges, brushes, and cleaning cloths. For thick layers, they may use a spray bottle with a mild cleaning agent to break up the layers for easier removal.

When fires burn slowly, and at comparatively low temperatures, the residues are often very sticky and more difficult to remove. Team members use scrub brushes and powered agitators with stronger cleaning agents to break up the residue layers and remove them from the property without harming the surface. If the residues remained on the property long enough to pit or stain the surface, then disposal is usually the more cost-efficient option.

Our Mold Remediation Specialists Explain Our Containment Strategies For Your Burley Home

12/26/2018 (Permalink)

Our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley can help you to protect the unaffected areas of your home and restore the damaged areas to their original condition.

Mold Containment Strategies For Damaged Burley Homes

With microbial growth in your Burley residence, containment must become a priority. Preventing the spread of a damaging organism throughout your home can help to protect unaffected elements and reduce the overall costs of mold remediation for the property. Our qualified team can help you to isolate the affected area of your property with advanced equipment and strategies, reducing the possibility of mold spores accessing new areas and making the situation worse while our technicians remove the existing mold colonies to return your property to original condition.

Mold damage in Burley homes is often misunderstood and underappreciated until the situation reaches a point that it causes structural failures or health effects. Most of these properties could have saved significant time and money by getting the professional assistance they needed sooner, but many homeowners do not fully understand how quickly mold growth can move between surfaces, contents, and entire areas of the home through access to HVAC ducts.

That is why when our SERVPRO professionals first reach your property we begin our assessment into the full reach of the organism at that moment. We can determine where other areas of your home could have gotten accessed by the HVAC system and protect these surfaces with the use of antimicrobial spray to prevent mold and fungal growth. The affected materials and areas of your home get quarantined as efficiently as possible.

This containment of the organism is only effective if the air circulation in your home has gotten shut off. Physical barriers get installed with thick sheet plastic to keep spores from reaching new areas in the vicinity with the conditions that support their growth. We work inside of this physical containment with negative air and air scrubber machines to improve air quality and reduce the volume of active mold spores and volatile organic compounds to protect our technicians and others in the house while the colony gets removed.

Containment is critical to prevent mold colonies from spreading to the point that they get out of control. Our SERVPRO of Wood River Valley can help you to protect the unaffected areas of your home and restore the damaged areas to their original condition. Give us a call at (208) 788-0183.

WOW!! A Sun Valley Greenhouse Needs Water Removal and Moisture Control?

12/17/2018 (Permalink)

Sun Valley Greenhouse and All COmmercial Structures Benefit from SERVPRO Water Removal and Dehumidification Services

A Commercial Water Removal Team Dries Out a Drenched Sun Valley Garden and Nursery Shop

Watering systems in Sun Valley greenhouses often run overnight to keep plants from drying out in the trapped heat in a greenhouse environment. Kinks in a hose can cause sudden problems that damage inventory and threatens equipment. SERVPRO's professional teams can help restore everything and get your business operations back to normal.

When a greenhouse facility in Sun Valley suffers a disaster from blocked or kinked hoses, commercial water removal teams can fix the problem. SERVPRO specialists use extraction equipment designed to remove water quickly and get the area ready for us to bring in our air movers and desiccant dehumidifiers to alleviate the dense humid condition.

Because a greenhouse is generally humid, we consult with the owner or manager to adjust our expectations regarding the desired moisture content. Overdrying really cannot happen in an intentionally humid space, but when we achieve the correct amount of water vapor in a greenhouse, continued efforts at drying things becomes counter-productive.

Most greenhouses contain drains in floors where excess water can safely run off, but potting soil and other loose materials such as sphagnum moss may clog these drains. When this occurs, we extract standing water with hollow wands that draw the water up and deposit it into secure chambers for easy disposal. This water might contain fertilizer, weed killer, and insecticides. Proper disposal protects our environment.

We must immediately dry out any inventory that becames waterlogged during such accidents or place it on damaged inventory sheets (CCIS.) You can turn these into your insurance adjuster when you file the claim to help your restoration efforts. Any destroyed inventory or equipment requires disposal to prevent microbial and other disastrous effects from occurring inside your facility. If other non-greenhouse locations experienced invasive water, we continue to dry these areas and also make a note of any significant damage to other items that might require replacement or extensive repairs.

If your greenhouse, nursery or other commercial property in Hailey, Gooding, or Ketchum sustains flooding from a watering system gone awry, SERVPRO of Wood River Valley can help with commercial water removal services. Contact us at our 24-hour service number, answered every day of the year, by calling (208) 788-0183. We understand the need to restore normal operations to your business again and can help you by making sure we restore everything “Like it never even happened.”

When your home has been damaged by a fire, contact SERVPRO for effective remediation which includes dealing with any remaining odors.

Indoor Air Quality Following a Fire in Your Sun Valley Home

After the first responders and firefighters have left your Sun Valley home, and the flames have gotten extinguished, you begin to determine the steps necessary to return your home to preloss conditions. While taking care of the immediate structural issues becomes a priority, you also have to consider whether conditions are safe within the home.
